Can a dealer change a deal?

Ordered an ifor Williams 18ft tri axle tilt bed, June 2021. Been delayed and delayed eta December this year. Deposit paid.
My question is can they change the price? Heard folk having their prices increased but no deposit was paid on theirs. I’m under the impression a deposit enters a contract?
Thoughts/experiences appreciated!

Do you have a written price with any duration terms on it? If not, then yes they can.

we all know that the market for anything has seriously changed, so some sympathy for both sides, depends how amicably you want to leave it, if its a fair increase ...... or ask for a bit of discount. There's always another day.
our cake firm refuses to quote for next winters cake, simply because no one has any real idea of what it will be, and fair enough.
Barn builder down the road, will quote the price, if ordered that day, next day is to late, totally fed up with changing steel prices, on a daily basis.

Ordered a bale trailer from Marshall through local dealer last March & was nearly August by the time I got it, I was fully expecting some sort of surcharge given the hike in steel price in the intervening time but was still original price.

I wonder if they have the steel bought far enough ahead that they have it priced for particular build slots?

Isn't that a question to ask the dealer rather than the TFF rumour committee?

So, you didn't agree to a price when you purchased it ?

However, if you did, I assume you have an order confirmation clearly stating this ?

Did you agree a delivery date ?

If so, and this has not been met, then the supplier is maybe in breach of contract, and you may be able to reclaim any additional costs you have incurred due to this.

However, we now have the fabled "Terms and Conditions" that are maybe written in small print somewhere, these may cover all the bases your unsure about, and you have maybe signed something agreeing to them. But like many others, never read them.

All to often we read threads about sales that have been agreed, and the aftermath because we don't ensure we agree everything at the time, and get it written down, and signed by both parties.

OK the deposit was paid but have you a sales agreement stating the price of the new one less deposit ?
Whether the time delay in the build would override the deal i'm not sure
Had a law case over a dealer not fulfilling a sales agreement the mistakes were on their side [probably also an area rep] just a total cock up . Eventually got my deposit back and they paid my legal bill but never got the product .

Was talking to an Ifor dealer a number of months ago and they said Ifor would just send out an email to say a price rise comes into effect in lets say a fortnight and anything delivered after that date is up in price. So therefore the dealer is forced to increase the price or if its a small margin loose money.
However on the other side my sister has a car ordered probably January delivery and the price is set in stone, the price is the price the dealer can't come back and say the price is up. Whether the manufacturer then forward buys all the steel and parts for that build slot i don't know.
Under normal times with relatively low depreciation long time delays aren't such a problem but with current market forces business is unpredictable.
Not much help i'm afraid.

Boilers, planks, windows, waste systems etc. Are quoted for the day, the next day the price might be totally different. Crazy.
