Can am ATV

I demo’d a Honda 500 yesterday and was disappointed with the odd way that reverse has to be selected on the auto, also the gearbox was random in the way it changes gear, the tow ball is so close to the frame I doubt I could attach a decent tow hitch to it, the accessories were very poor design trays held on to racks with bungee and the road reg kit looked like something made in my shed.
From my perspective the Can Am is head and shoulders above the Honda so I just have to settle on which model, I think it will be a 570 with ABS brakes and maybe two seater

Has anybody had any problems with coolant leaking on a 570 Outlander?

There was the smell of antifreeze and the reservoir was low. When the engine is warm, I can see a drip slightly right of centre just behind the front wheels.

I’ve tried removing the reservoir cap to reduce pressure, but it doesn’t slow the leak much.

Any ideas?

I have had the same with my 450 when its worked hard towing a logic flail mower, I replaced two of the hose clips that were leaking, on mine it was like the cooling system was over pressurising and putting coolant out the overflow once the clips were replaced, that was last summer so we will see what happens this year.

Thanks ever so much @crofter 65 . Took mine apart this afternoon and turns out that the header tank is faulty. It looks like it was made in 2 halves and the joint has split.
Bugger of a job to get to!
Had to take the front weight carrier off. Then the rhs black side panel., Then the whole of the front fairing, plus the air cleaner console. Then move the cradle that holds the gauges panel out of the way to get to it.
Those 2 jubilee clips on the bottom of the header tank are bloody awful.
I had to undo the pipe that goes to the engine and the pipe that goes to the top of the radiator and pull it all out in one go to get the 2 tank clamps off.
I’ve no idea what they would call those clips, but they will be replaced with proper jubilee clips!

Had 6 in total now and looking to get another 3 later this year. After 20 years of Hondas, we decided to change in 2014 as the last 3 or 4 Hondas we bought started to have serious build issues and faults we'd not experienced with previous models.
Had 2 x 500's, a 450 and 3 x 570's. Didn't keep the 450 long as found out after buying that it was only a single cylinder. A different league to the V Twins on the larger models.
Don't think I could change bikes just for the comfort alone now. NFU offer a discount on purchases too.

How many hours/miles do you keep them for? How reliable? What difference did it make that the 450 was a single cylinder?

Just sold a 17 reg with around 800 hours and 4000km on so not high amounts. I may sell the latest 2 at 2yrs old and about 400hrs as the warranty finishes then. Re sale value is pretty good and never had any real reliability issues. Brakes can wear down before too long depending on the type of work.
The 450 was an OK bike but just seemed a bit underpowered compared to the 500. Didn't sound as nice either!?

Three reasons to buy a can am
1. They don’t steal them as security too much for them
2 They don’t steal them
3 They don’t steal them.
4 They steal Hondas Cos they can get them started in 5 seconds .
Good point @Hilly The coded key is pretty secure too and the thieves knowledge of Can Ams is not so good as Hondas and other makes.

I can only remember my can am with derision
So noisy you couldn’t ever get near the ewes
Turning circle of the titanic with the diff lock jammed on
Belt made from cheese string
An exhaust ( mild steel) just in the right position to burn yourself when hooking on the snacker
Gears on the wrong side.....................
But it was a nice colour?
