Can Am Quad....Std vs Pro

I need to update my quad, current one suffered a gear box failure!

Been looking and speaking to the dealer about a Can Am Outlander L 450. Dont think I need the 570 to be honest.

But is the Pro worth having over the basic model?

Pro gives me power steering, up rated suspension, better seat cover and more aggressive tyres.

Most work is running around after sheep, slug pelleting, spot spraying with 3m boom sprayer. Some towing of a trailer mainly at lambing time.

Slug pelleter is probably the heaviest item, when full must be near 75kg plus.

Ground is rolling with some steep bits.

Have you tried a 450?
We've got one and a 570 both pro's
Tyres are ok but not as good as bighorns etc. Seat is good but not unbreakable.
The 450 is half the bike the 570 is. Feels gutless and very noisy.
For a few extra quid I'd go for the bigger bike!

On another note I'm pretty pee'd off with can am this week. Bikes been serviced and just had bills coming back for various parts that have worn. Not covered by warranty because of excessive mileage even though when we bought the bike we were told it was a two year warranty!
Never had a problem with Honda or Suzuki warranty with 25000 miles on the bike and mines only done 8000!!
To busy lambing at the moment to get it sorted

I changed my original CanAm in just to get power steering. The old one was a 650 and it was buggering my shoulders driving at low speed round lambing sheep (trying to creep up on & leap on ewe lambs particularly). I wouldn't like to go back now.
I put a good seat cover on mine this year, when I found out that a new seat costs £500! I don't intend changing the bike before it's done a good few years so I don't want to be shelling out for a new seat.
As for tyres, the 'standard' tyres are most quads aren't a patch on Bighorns and the like. If you spend the winter puddling round in mud, decent tyres make all the difference.
If you look at putting all those on an 'L' model, you're soon up to the 'Pro' price anyway. Depends if you think you'll want them I suppose. I know I would.

I had a ride on one last week with no power steering, was like some prehistoric monster ! never want to be without that again !

Not sat on one yet other than at Mid Devon Show last summer, dealer is going to come by Friday with a demo machine. May be a 450 or 570.

Not talked prices in any great detail yet, will see what he has to say face to face. 450 std or pro not a million miles away and certainly look good value vs Honda/polaris

Very true but he seems happy to support it and know of a few locally. Gets good feedback. They are now offering a mobile mechanic for servicing or a swap out to take it back to base for service.

Is that a Pro? Looks a good lift at the rear? Slug pelleter would be a good 75 to 100kg on the back to carry full.
No this one is an outlander 500 before they started doing the pro and L models i'd of thought this one would be closer to pro spec though apart from the power steering
I cant remember the rack capacities but it would be more than fine with that weight I can crack rappa frames easily enough but the rack is fine
What kind of money is a 570 these days I keep toying with the idea of changing this one but to be fair to her she is faultless yet
It was carrying those types of passengers that made me think.:(
I managed to tear it with some rappa anchor posts I think before I had a proper carrier for them, I should of got a cover but didn't back then:(

Have you priced a Polaris?

They've stopped offering the 450 in UK for 2017 and have lowered the 570 price down to what the 450 was - £5,250 list IIRC, youl buy it for about £4,800. NFU members get discount ontop of that.

No other bike will come close on price.

@Gator has a Polaris 450 and seems to get on fine with it. 570 is just the same bike. I had a look over one 5-6 months ago, was quite impressed with the look/design/feel of it. Quite tempted to try one next time i change... only fear is wether the reputation from the 90's is still true today.
