Getting quotes for a Concrete slab 40 mtrs x 18 mtrs for our Oak Framed Haybarn. It will be used for agriculturul purposes. ( just futureproofing!)
We're based in the South East of England and so far the quotes are around 60k inc vat. Seems a lot - or is this what it costs .
Can anyone help please.
Many thanks.

I’ve recently had a couple of quotes to lay a 36x30m reinforced slab. One was 32k and one was near 40k (+vat) so yours doesn’t sound that far out for the size as that doesn’t include the ground works which can easily add another 10k + on a big site.

Well at 200mm and £100 a cu for easy calcs it’s £14.5k for the conc, double it for laying, setting up etc etc and the rest is sorting the levels and the base so does look a tad expensive unless you’re having to level off a steep part

EDIT: rebar needs to befactored into above

Eeek.

Although, that's a nice 2000sq ft barn conversion project.

Can't help but think at £60k you could buy in hay forever cheaper than filling your barn up.

Are they putting in underfloor heating at the same time - to keep the hay warm of course.
True but we do actually produce hay from our land + tricky neighbours so must use it for its intended purpose . Thinking about underfloor. Apparently there's a way you can do it partly so cost is limited.

Soon as we finish, neighbours will be straight onto Enforcement who will arrive with the Tape Measure and take images of what's inside.

Last winter we built a 20 mtr Poultry Pen with Chicken Wire , Fencing Stakes , netting and a Sleeper wall on one side.
In November we added 1 x 2mt sections of Corrugated sheet so only covered the first 2 mt as per DEFRA.
Neighbours straight on it.
Council told us it was a building.
Have now removed Sheets and they seem ok.
Lets hope. Its a bit of a nightmare as per my posts in the past.

I'm not taking any chances with this Barn !

Do you have a field that’s close to your neighbours house? Tell them if they call the council once more you’ll fill it with pigs and put some shelters right next to their garden. It worked for a chap I know that was having trouble with the townies!

If it was ever to be a dwelling would it need doing to comply with building regs including insulation and damp proofing? May be easier to treat the pad as the house foundation and allow adequate head room so it can have insulation and screed on top with UFH if that ever happens in the future?
Give the neighbours a coronary, when the concrete is down mark the shed outline with bright spray paint then subdivide into rooms marked in big letters 'KITCHEN,' 'BEDROOM 6' etc

Actually its their field with horses in that backs onto ours . Hubby got pee'd off and already built 5 pens and put large Black Pigs next to them and still we're suffering 😫

We've made it 5 mtrs high and will insulate it + put a DP membrane. The Oak frame co told us they are building to the same spec as a house. We are anticipating a call from Enforcement when the frame goes up.
External is just log lap and Corrugated sheet . We thought to use box type sheets to be a bit smarter. Would welcome any other suggestions .

Sounds like it will be a nice shed! Definitely go with box profile it's a superior system with neatly integrated guttering, and have the insulated type as well, even in a shed it's wise because it stops condensation forming on the underside of the roof. Put ducting in the floor for bringing in water/electric/phone even if you haven't got them to begin with. The cherry on top would be waste water pipes in the floor as well for possible kitchen/bathrooms (or facilities for the shed) one day. Locating them would take some guesswork but worth considering.

Are you down by the riding stables?
Used to visit Station Garage and play with the very early versions of what turned into Mitsubishi Evo's. My bestie did his Apprenticeship there under Alan Langdon.
