Can farmers relax or is it just me?

It’s Christmas, but after just a few hours of sitting around watching telly etc, supposedly relaxing, I start to get itchy feet thinking I should be doing something outside on the farm. Arrgghh! Does anybody else get like this, is it just a farmer thing?
The only time I really relax is when I’m away from the farm and preferably out of the country!
Yeah get itchy feet when not doing anything feel guilty for not working hard enough but also feel guilty when not spending time with the wife and boys 2 not walking and 4 so can't always come and help

Try to take it easy this time of year.
Just feed the cattle and look at the sheep. Scanning on Friday..pretty soon after that work load will increase, herd TB test, lambing, calving. Am a one man band and no spring chicken and it's dark and wet and swampy so do just enough fiddling about to stop me getting really bored.

2 or 3 hours pottering in the workshop doing non~essential but interesting /useful little jobs is enough to settle me for the rest of the day. (Mended a dead strimmer yesterday, looking at a bucket with a worn out cutting edge today)

Never have a problem relaxing on holiday - have always tried to have 2 weeks off every year (often spring and autumn half term) - totally switch off as I am heading out the farm gate.

Same here. If i find myself at a loose ebb start to think about what i can fix now or is there any wee bita fence thatl pass the next couple of hours. If OH knew this she wouldnt be best pleased as shed think i should come home to see her and the kids but i feel guilty if im not workin so just tell her am flat out and go find somethin to be at. I always feel good if i get somethin fixed. Last 2 days it was a few gates mended

Nor a farmer but I don't switch off always busy. I finished on the 17th until the 4th which I was looking forward to.. Plan was to office stuff upto date. I've had some bug not Covid that knocked me for six so I slept a fair few days. Over it now and twitching and buzzing to go and do something....I just think if I can do it now I can do something else tomorrow.

Pisses me off.. but that's how I'm wired I guess.

I was the same, had something awful before Christmas. PCRs were clear but missed last week of work and all the run up and was very flat the week before Christmas and Christmas day and Boxing day. I usually never sit in the house but even this week still taking it easy or I need to be in bed by 8 at night!! Been out and about Monday, yesterday and today just to try to get going!! Tommorow forcasts a washout so going to have a christmasy day in house with film and chocs etc with little one then will try again on Friday to get up and running!!

Farmers think its only them, my FIL is 72 and spent the whole of boxing morning sorting out lorries and trying to find spare drivers that weren't answering there phones, Him and his brothers had to go and drive in the end and quite often have to drive to artic's to get them back at night. We think farming is hard but much more difficult trying to run 60 arctic's!

I always say it’s just to easy to go to work, I’m under pressure and need the money so the answer is to work!
I enjoy my work and I like achieving something every day so a full day off is hard.
We just had the southern townies for a few nights, they laze around in pyjamas half the day, sleep for 16 hours a night, come downstairs at 10 and exclaim it’s early, eat toast and go back to bed until 1pm getting fatter by the minute and have no zest for life what so ever. I would rather rod drains in a cesspit than live like that
I can't bear it when people stay here overnight and are still lying in bed at 8 in the morning and finally appear about half 9 in their 'gay gowns' have a coffee then back off upstairs !
Get up, up get dressed and get out is my moto

I just can’t understand why you would want to get up and get semi dressed to get dressed again later! Just get up and get on!
We hate it, we get up around 5.30 to walk our dogs and we end up tip toeing around the house “not to wake them” however the reversing beeper on the forklift does the job but they still don’t get up.
They just seem to have no interest in life apart from eating and sleeping like some vast comfort pigs. Imagine when you die and your life flashes before you and it’s a montage of laying in bed doing NOTHING with no hopes, dreams, aspirations, achievements or memories

Just choose, it is your life and you control it

I think the main problem with relaxation is that we don't choose it, eg we are obliged to or feel like we should be, but don't actually "choose to relax" or "choose to leave it for tomorrow" and then it eats us

sometimes it's the story, too, "Daddy always started early and came home late" but Daddy isn't living our life

We were discussing this yesterday …..

we reckon that the week between Christmas and new year is the only time of year when the pressure is off !! No phone calls, no-one wanting deliveries/ to collect ( well, there’s always one 😡)

just feed the animals and then do what you want …..

That said - we have spent most of this week tidying the clutter out of the workshop 😆

Yes, I agree totally. Not often I go into a shop or supermarket for anything. But last day at work before the holidays, I forgot my usual packed lunch. Standing in a short queue for a sandwich at the local deli, my eyes were popping at the number of women in the shop, in bed clothes and dressing gowns. Fudging hell, the crassness and cheapness of it nearly knocked me over.
