£10/month should get you 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 1 GB of data, which is more than ample for people that don't use their phone much and don't go silly streaming video and music on 4G. Remember that it should be set to connect automatically to broadband while in the office and house and wherever else has wifi, so any significant data or updates should be limited to wifi.
Whatever you do, don't send pictures in a text message [SMS] because it costs extra every time. Use email, Whatsapp or iMessage etc and it just uses a bit of data allowance.

I'm fairly sure you wouldn't get quite that good a deal unless you had a fleet of phones on contract with a provider, but if that deal is available to everyone and they need that data, it's good value.

I'm on £8/month plus VAT for 1GB data and a lot of calls with BT. May well shift to 3 soon though, because BT don't know their arse from their elbows.

I think you will be surprised by what 3 are able to offer nowadays -

I just got a 3rd SIM from Virgin. Unlimited mins & texts with 8Gb of data for £8/month (inc VAT). They piggy back on the EE network currently, but I think I heard they were looking to merge with O2 & someone else sometime soon, making the biggest network provider.

Certainly had no issues with them since I moved from EE a few years ago.

I pay £8 month for 8gb data. Three

£8 for 1gb is a rip off.
Not if you don't use the 1GB. I think my daughter pays £8+VAT for similar data to yours. She doesn't use it either. However she wouldn't get that price if she didn't have internet and telephone from the same provider, which isn't BT.

It wasn't long ago that you would pay £15/month for 1GB and 600 minutes.

For heaven's sake ask locals if they use 3.

I used to be on 3, good deal, goodish coverage.

Then they dropped the O2 network, stuck the price up, rubbish coverage.

Awful service round here.

Go to your local 3 shop
and get a one month sim to check on the reception in your regular area (we go nationwide). If the reception is good enough for you then as an existing customer they will likely be able to upgrade you to a longer deal at a better than headline rate.
3 can include roaming outside the EU (but not including Turkey) with USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Note: Roaming outside the UK uses whatever network is the best signal whichever country you are in, so if you can stick to Wattsapp then it’s all covered within the £10 to £12 per month when roaming.

Roaming as part of a standard SIM package, in the EU and possibly worldwide, will probably come to an end this year for the foreseeable future. Just as you will need to purchase health insurance to travel to Europe and possibly even need to apply for a visa to each individual country.

I’m on unlimited everything for £10, sim only contract

Who’s that with?

When I was looking for 4G broadband a few months ago, the cheapest unlimited data SIM I could find was £20/month from Three.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get a speed any higher than that over our phone line, so left it as was. Openreach promising to put FTTP in foc soon, but the service won’t be cheap.:(
