Can we use red if we pay duty if this fuel crisis continues ?

North west of England not surprisingly was the epicentre of the Fullers Earth/ cat litter diesel scam. The problem was that fine clay particles got through and fudged up the injectors in a lot of cars. Best method was using Renault tractor fuel filters. They filtered out the red. Other method was a bread stick sealed with cling film and the red filtered through. The starch in the bread removed the dye. J cloths also have a 1 micron filtration effect.
Amazing what you can learn here....

Kero was our fuel of choice 20 yrs ago in the earlier crisis... Not sure that yer modern diesel motor would like it though. ;)

Before they put colour in kero I used scooter 2 stroke oil to lubricate the pump and injectors. Did many tens of thousands of miles. Smelled like a Rayburn cooker on start up. Old 2.9 Merc sprinter engines were designed to run on 50% kero for cold continental winters to avoid waxing up.

Dye in kero?

What’s so special about Renault tractor fuel filters?

If you have a non common rail diesel then you can run on cooking oil (up to 2000l/year). Rape oil is good or go to local cash& carry to buy the 20l cans of catering oil. Truck exhaust will smell like chip van but run perfectly. As mentioned above the MB 2.9 was made to run on other than derv.

Some of the comments in here about diesel staining, marking tanks and it being a different fuel
Are hilarious

fuel tanker goes to refinery or loads from company’s own storage tank. his tanker is split into different “pots” on his vehicle. His load is ordered depending on his route, amounts needed and pot sizes

today, he could have red in pot 1

tomorrow, white in pot 1

if it stained tanks, would they be allowed to do that, I doubt it, same with the hose reel

believe it or not, but the hose reel is very seldom
Empty, with up to 100l kept in each time, this has to be taken into account when changing products between deliveries

I have a funny feeling that it’s illegal to transport kero and petrol in the same vehicle, due to the potential fireball if an accident was to happen.

After I fill my yard tank with red I close the sight gauge valve which is clear plastic pipe. After about 3 weeks the red diesel in the sight pipe looses its red appearance and turns white. The first time I noticed it I thought it was rain water getting in but I emptied the pipe and it wasn’t water. So does sunlight affect the red dye in diesel?
