I am a military veteran with my own company and would like to find out if there are any problems that the farming community are facing that I could help solve.

My company offers drone services, including thermography, 3D modelling and photogrammetry. Would anyone be open to answering a few question for my research?

It might help if you explain what you are researching :scratchhead: :banghead:;)

Sorry,

I'm trying to find out what problems farmers are facing regularly that can be solved with the use of drones i.e. would the use of thermal imaging to track or locate livestock be of use? If we were to map and provide images of land to show degradation over time, is this something of interest? And of course the fitting of machine guns to catch hare coarsers is a given.

So the main question is:
What problems plague the farming community that could benefit from a technological solution?

Also, do you use drones yourself and if so what for? Thanks for your help

I can’t think that it would be..! But why the conclusion that there would be degradation over time?
Most farmers are constantly improving and looking after their farms, often for the next generation. (yes there are exceptions) It wouldn’t be in there interest to let it degrade, or is this just another angle of an anti farming agenda..?

Anti farming agenda? I didn't even know that was a thing, sorry. Definitely not. And it's a very good point, so apologies if any offence was implied.
This is exactly what I need to know. I'm trying to work with the farming community to provide solutions but really don't know where to start. Land mapping is prominent in alot of industries.

You'd do better to be more positive.

A drone presentation to illustrate the effectiveness of stewardship? Yes.
Land improvement? Yes
Illustrate changes over time (say every ten years)? Yes
Illustrate diversity? Yes

Show degrading of land? No - you're coming at this all wrong. Anyone daft enough to be actively degrading their land isn't going to want a postcard of it, are they!!

Appreciate the feedback and thank you for highlighting that. I came at it from the coastal monitoring angle where we see environmental effects on the land. Didn't take into account the great work you guys do daily, for which I apologise.

But this is exactly what I'm looking for. Learning where my skills can compliment yours. Thanks again Spud.

Is that not exactly what soil sampling does? If you can highlight areas where soil is degrading more quickly and cheaply then it woudl be a good thing, you coudl say no-one deliberatley degrades land, but it does happen and sometimes it is inevitable, but can be reversed.

I dont tihnk you need to advertise the findings, Skymariner seems to be proposing something to use as a management tool rather then a marketing device.

Crop scanning and locating livestock are defintilly potential uses

They would most likely take my bird out! Had a flock of starlings testing my drone out one time. They're fearless. I do have a drone with an emitting speaker. Maybe I'll find out what noise they hate!

They don't hate anything ...... that's the problem.

I would dearly love to know why the RSPB think they are even remotely "at risk".
