I’m taking the last of my lambs to market tomorrow but there’s a few lame ,nothing more than abit of scold but wondering if there still okay to sell as it would seem pointless to keep 2 or 3 back.

No. But it depends how lame they are.Anything holding a foot up;dont even think about it. Very, very slightly lame, but still weight bearing ????? If the Trading Standards are on the unloading docks, its exactly what they are looking out for.

Have you not got footpath and golden hoof that would sort them enough to get them walking , or if a few just footpath them individually in a plastic milk carton with top corner cut out .

We've a ram with an abscess, been trying to get him right for a year now so he can go, almost there then he goes and treads on a thorn or somesuch, swear he knows whats going on, he's now got a feed bag tied round his leg with a bran poultice in it, been told it will cure him, he's nibbling like hell at the bag trying to get rid of it lol.

I asked trading standards this about ewes, his answer was as long as they bare weight on it when walking and don't hold it off the ground when standing it's fine.
that was his interpretation mind, others may differ.
I think that is a fair assessment. They never get off the trailer better than they got on it though so personally, I would suggest you leave anything with a question mark over it for another day if you can

and if he goes down in the trailer he'll get dirty which wont help. Also they pitch when they've got strip / lame , so wont die out quite so well.

I think the question is ‘how lame’. Some people’s idea of severely lame is favouring a foot slightly, whereas others can look at a lamb holding 2 feet in the air with CODD and not see much of a problem.

If in doubt, leave them at home. If it’s just scald then a squirt of Terramycin spray in the infected hooves will see it sorted within a day or so, if it’s more than that it may take longer.

It might be worth considering that a lame sheep pulled up by TS at the market will often trigger an inspection of the premises, with all the problems having the officious little b*rst*rds wandering around the place might entail.

We had some proper awkward TS at Chelford back when it was there. BUT too be fair too them. They always maintained that as long as it bore weight on it and didn’t hang it then it was fine.
thankfully we’ve a handy abattoir 30 minutes away who will deal with anything I can’t get right direct!

I don't sell lame sheep in markets because I don't fancy a day spent with trading standards. But my big bug bear is why can lame sheep be sold in breeding sales? Go to the big mule gimmer lamb sales and you will see lambs with there feet in the air as the run round the ring! Make me bloody angry 🤬

Trading standards got a bit laid back at our local market ,new broom came in ( think she used to ride it to work) and came down hard even had some cull ewes shot in the MKT. Moved on now replacement is OK but takes no messing so I've heard.
Maybe needed pulling up a bit because some will always push it to far
