Can't hear a feckin' thing!

Completely OT, but I was watching a travel program about India the other evening and Michael Palin encountered a professional ear cleaner. Apparently, it is a worthy and honoured profession in India and this man came from a long line of pro ear cleaners. He actually removed quite a quantity of debris from the Palin ears. much to the patient's surprise.

Deafness does have it's benefits. In my negotiations with the cops post gun seizure. I was able to evoke the Equality Act 2010 which states that service providers (e.g. police) have to make provision for my disability so all communications have to be in writing. Very useful to have a written record when one party might have a conveniently selective memory of events, not that I would dream of casting nasturtians at anyone!:)

I assume you meant aspersions. The nearest word, nasturtium, is one of these...

But then maybe casting them at the police would be no worse?

(No harm intended)

Update: the syringing thing never happened, so no spiders or maggots were driven out. Apparently need to keep 'oiling' for a bit yet, so now booked in for next Wednesday.:(

Getting pee'd off now, but at least I can't hear all the Brexit drivel on the news all day.(y)
What you need to do is, get a small jug or similar and pee in to it, when you have your sample hold your head on one side and pour some in to your ear, you will feel it almost fizzing as it dissolves the wax, you might have to do it a couple of times but half an hour and your hearing will be back to normal, you might laugh but it does work.

How did someone come up with that 'remedy'

Must admit I was smiling thinking about the brave (foolhardy) person who did it the first time and the tenuous links to him deciding that that idea would work:facepalm::D

It was actually one of my friends doctors when we were at school over 40 years ago, he wouldn't do it and used something from the chemist instead, me, I'm not so particular. Why complicate life when there's no need? if I remember correctly urine is acid and dissolves the wax.

Otex bottle ran out, so carried on with olive oil drops 3x a day. Syringed this morning after being almost totally deaf for over a week now. Job's a good 'un.(y) Don't know why everyone's shouting at me now though.:scratchhead:

I've got to say the pee suggestion wasn't at all tempting:sick:, but did raise a chuckle.
Glad you got it sorted @neilo

All that hassle for what?

Are you sure this is the whole story, only as I under stand they were going to use a syringe until they saw the scale of the job, and then called in a hymack and a fleet of spreaders

Latest outpatient option is vacuum dewaxing, about as noisy as Otex. A product called EarCalm can be used alongside olive oil. £8 for 5ml of 2% acetic acid (vinegar) makes salad dressing! Be advised of the possibility of fungal ear infections too. New hearing aids are Bluetooth connected.

That's old hat. They now rod out from the other side.

But to be serious (for a brief moment), one doctor told me his father told him, nothing other than your elbow should be inserted into an ear. I think that would be because an ear is a warm, sheltered, and generally a little moist place, so an ideal seed bed for all sorts of nasties. So good advice.

I had my ears syringed by the doctor as a child. No big deal. A syringe was kept in the family medicine cabinet for years after that but never used. The cap of a biro makes a good scoop....

If you were to be prescribed Sofradex ear drops, the official line is to make an ear wick, soak with juice and insert for a few minutes while the 0.5% Framycetin Sulphate does FA. My earwick is half a licked cocktail stick wound with cotton wool. Be advised that the ear canal is not straight but not a U or an S bend either.
