We haven't changed anything on our side, but we don't control the app i'm afraid. Its TapaTalk software. They have been discussing for a while stoppping uploads to private messages. I guess they have now done it.

The good news is the App won't really be needed for the new version of the forum. It works so much better on a phone and therefore you will be able to use that to upload pictures again to Private messages. We have been testing it for a couple of weeks now.

Its not "our" app. Its a system provided by Tap-a-talk. Thus we have no control over functionality in it, the way it looks and so on. Therefore when stuff like this happens we have no control.

New new version on the Forum will be launching shortly, it will still have an app, its one of the things we are testing, however, the gap between Apps and programs has narrowed a lot and specifically on a mobile the new version of the forum is a massive upgrade (its much more like an app in fact). Those who want to change can, those who want to continue to use the app can do that too.

Why dont you just provide your own app .
The rest of the world uses apps .why so old fashioned

The massive cost to develop one is the first issue. The second is that app's and webpages are getting closer in functionality all the time. Gone are the days when phones couldn't handle the complexity of a web page. We are now moving to a situation where Progressive Web Apps, that almost can't be distinguished from native apps (the one's you download).

In short Apps are being surpassed and are becoming old fashioned. Thus the web interface within XF2 is massively improved. In fact, it looks a lot more like the app. So we have spent our money there instead.

There is certainly still room for both, but the downloads of apps has massively decreased over the past 5 years, I forget the stats, but its a big number while the use of web browsers continues to grow. Barring games for my kids, I don't think I've downloaded one over the last few years.
