Car buying

I am after a new car for the Mrs. It’s second hand and costs £23k. It is for sale at The car shop. It is widely reported that this company is closing down, it belongs to the much larger sytner group. I have the cash to pay, but would I be safer putting some of it on finance in case of any future problems with the vehicle/company?? Are aftermarket warranties worth the paper? Car is 7yrs old.

Re the warranty.
Second hand showrooms get paid commission to sell extended warranty, it used to be 3 months or 3000 miles ,which ever the sooner .
Car sales staff only earn their wages from pushing the extras and they don't like cash buyers .
Few years ago , a lad I worked with went in to a big showroom with 5k in cash and told the sales guy , that's the car I want ,I'll take it now.
He soon got told , We don't sell cars for cash , we can offer a finance deal .
Another way to earn commission.
The lad told them where to shuv the finance and walked out .
Ended up buying the same model and age from another dealer that did take cash , and it was alot cheaper.

I look at £500 per year cost-wise for an average car. That’s just the buying of it, not maintenance.
So my most recent 14 plate Skoda cost £4k and at my rate-per-year should last me eight years.

Unless the model a rarity, I would only buy from a reputable garage within 25 miles of home after checking values on a site like Autotrader.
The fact that you post on here appears to show you have some concerns..

Mrs does 25k miles per year, must be reliable. Going for the last of the old shape xc60 Volvo. Last one written off, wifey didn’t even realise she had been hit!!
Ahh, great Volvo safety credentials there!!
Looks like a tank, handles like a tank etc

I see on cursory (nosey) glance there are 9 XC60s are on Autotrader priced between £16k-£23k within 25 miles of me
