A HOLE UNDER THE CAR DOOR LOCK!!

Crikey!
Wednesday, I approached my car from the passenger side to place
my computer bag in the front passenger seat.

As I reached to open the door I noticed there was a hole right
under my door handle.

My first thought was, "someone has shot the car !"

I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer and
the "light" slowly began to dawn.

I phoned a friend who owns a body shop and asked if he had any
vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.

"Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and place it
right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach in and
unlock it, just as if they have a key. No alarms, broken glass,
or anything."

I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to
him. I was puzzled that they left my GPS and all other belongings.

Here is where it gets scary !

"Oh no, he said, they want the break-in to be so subtle that you
don't even realize it. They look at your GPS to see where "home"
is. Or check your address from Insurance and Registration documants
in your glove box.

Now they know what you drive, go to your home, and if your
vehicle isn't there they assume you aren't, and break into your
home."

He said they will even leave a purse or wallet and only take one
or two credit cards. By the time you realize there has been a
theft, they may have already had a couple of days or more to
use them.

(I didn't realize my situation for two full days!)

They even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.

Periodically, walk around your car, especially after you park
in a shopping center or other large parking area.

Report thefts immediately....your bank w/missing check numbers,
your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc.

Below is picture of what the hole looks like.

Hole Under Door Lock

One would have to look pretty darn close to notice a hole like that.
If the hole was on the passenger side I would never see.

I watched a recovery team removing a beemer once. They had something that looked like a 12 inch engineers steel rule. Slipped it down the glass and it was open in less time than I take with a key. While they were moving it, the door swung shut and locked so they did it again no problem.

hi you would not have had to make a hole in the door in the 90's you could get in with a coat hanger;)

My sons Jack Russell is a lively bl%%dy thing, she has twice been left in a car and locked herself in.

She did it in a his Ford Kuga and was bliss fully unaware of the mayhem she was causing by blocking everywhere up, she got so excited that time at the fuss people were making that she cra%ped on the drivers seat. She eventually managed cleverly to hit the correct button between the seats again and open the doors. This was about two minutes before the spare key had beeen brought 8 miles to open the door.

Last saturday night it came in the car (Volvo V40) with me, at our destination I left her in the car, 5 minutes later my son said the dog has locked the car. She had been bouncing back and forth from each door window and had landed on the central lock button:oops: . This time with no spare keys to be had, a phone call to the AA was made, thoughts of smahing a side window was mentioned , finally a friend managed to open it with the coat hanger trick, on an 02 car.:)

Most modern cars these days will have dead locks so they cannot every be opened from inside by pulling the handle inside I used to work on a van sales pitch next to a pub and one day left a vans side door open some drinkers from the pub were having a little nosy and one thought it be funny to push his friend in and close the door which automatically locked it as the rest of the van was locked they had to call the police who In turn called me a key holder to come let him out at 8 o’clock on a Friday night I was in no rush to get there so he was stuck for over an hour

I have dead locks on my Beamer and can assure you that they open from inside. I believe, to build it in any other way would be illegal.
You can set the child locks to disable this on all doors but the driver
must be loads of illegally built cars it’s actually a law to do with anti-theft that it works like that vag group (Audi vw ect) all have it it can be programmed to work slightly different on them maybe the bmw is the same didn’t realise how old this thread was just read it and had to add my story I’m now off to share some 3 year old posts of missing dogs on Facebook lol
