Car tyre question.

My wife's car has 225/40 R18 92Y tyres on it. They look to me to be a relatively low profile tyre ,which are great for high speed driving but very susceptible to punctures when driving on country lanes ,when one hits a pot hole on the side of the country lane when one pulls over to let a centre of the road hugging driver come by from the opposite direction.
Would any of you know if their is a more conventional larger profile tyre, we could fit to the car which would be not so susceptible to punctures as the tyres on the car at the present time, but also give good high speed driving stability characteristics.
Apologies for putting this on the machinery thread.

Tyres are 225 wide with a 40% profile on an 18” rim with a speed rating of 92y
You should check the manual for other tyres available for that car and definitely no less than a 92y speed rating. A quick check in filler cap flap or drivers door pillar will list tyres available with recommended pressures.
Road surfaces are crap these days with potholes everywhere, modern alloy wheel rims don’t cope very well with potholes, if steel rims are available they may help.

If you put a larger tyre on, won't that affect the speed sender unit, also it will depend how much clearance there is in steering lock,, if the tyres are non standard fit from manufacturing, it could affect the insurance in case of a claim

Try a 17” rim with a higher profile tyre to keep rolling radius the same - check that the smaller rim will clear the brakes. Many cars come with different wheel /tyre options - see what can be fitted as a first step.

Large rims with low profile tyres are largely a fashion statement - ride usually suffers as well as damage on rough roads.

Is there a lower spec version with smaller wheels /higher profile tires, a search on eBay might find some . I changed from a 40 profile to a 45 profile on same wheels on last car didn’t cause any problems and made Speedo accurate .

Invulnerable to pot holes and kerbs, the only sensible choice for the modern UK road network

We have and they are less than helpful.Seems as though unless it is on Audi S3 options list they aren’t allowed to suggest an option:banghead::banghead:
Car sales people are not allowed to think out of the box Audi policy!!!
They will not be allowed to suggest anything not type approved, you may have ap problem then if you do change as insurers don't like it
