Carbon Border Tax

I see this is in the news again this morning. This surely has to be important for U.K. farming too?
We are being burdened with ever increasing environmental standards (by 2040) yet food for overseas can be grown to any environmental standard.

we have a habit of exporting our pollution in this Country. Would this help us as an industry? Or would we really need a water border tax for that too?

It would be great and would probably be very effective in reducing the total emissions we as a country are responsible for, but the price of almost everything would go up so I think it would be political suicide. Everyone will tell you more must be done for the environment but if it inconveniences them personally all of a sudden they can think of multiple better solutions that only effect other people.

I'd agree prices will go up, but have some things just got too cheap in the last 10 years?

But would it encourage us to stop off-shoring pollution in the first place. E.g make steel in the UK that we are very good at producing and encourage UK employment. We have traded reducing pollution levels for loss of employment.

In the ag side they same is true.
