Carbon Footprint

Anyone gone through the ordeal of trying to work out their 'actual' carbon footprint?

There's so many different calculators and tweaked methods.

It would be interesting to know what averages are.

ie 100 ha of wheat traditionally drilled = ? same for all crops
100 ha of wheat min tilled = ? ditto above
100 head of sheep = ?
100 Dairy cattle =?
100 fattening Cattle = ?
100 Store lambs - ?
100 ha perm grass = ?
100 ha grazed grass = ?
100 ha cut grass = ?
Stewardship options = ?

....etc etc

Just a basic ballpark reference we could all look at and work around accordingly.

The first adopter of the hydrogen tractor will be off to a flyer presumably.

I know the info is out there but it's all scattered and often variable.

A standard list, discussed and approved by the knowledge on this forum, would be a handy tool.

Work out what actually leaves the farm, calculate C content, multiply by 2.66 to get CO2 fixed.

Add anything else in that stays on farm, straw ( in shed and weight of root mass left as stubble) grass as silage / increased weight of cattle over last 12 months.

Deduct anything that comes onto farm.

We can work this between us.

Where is an APP developer when you want one???.
Often people on here scouting for ideas, lurking ,asking picking brains all STILL to no credible result ?
It's so complex and nuanced - far beyond "ready reckoning"

even variation from mean annual precipitation / temperature / humidity makes a difference

I do like the idea, but it would be like taking a soil sample and prescribing a fert cocktail for the entire county from that cubic inch of soil - which is another one of the variables of course, soluble phosphate inhibition of mycorrhizae is abit beyond apps too

At this moment in time, but if this is the way it is going , plenty of companies are already on the case most likely to" corner the market ","get you over a barrel "and "extract your last beans" most probably !

Yes - don't put your head in their trap!!

Don't fall for this BS - bank carbon for your own reasons, make it your legacy, but don't give any more to corporations and clipboard weilding pen-clickers who can run a program or tick boxes

it's only going that way because people let it

a simple form where you could plug in your own results per ewe / cow etc would give a basic comparison. Can this be done @Clive

It's quite a complex calculation

this may help

not sure if it copes with livestock or not but used it for our arable calculations

The Cool Farm Tool is also worth a look
