Carbon Trail

With everyone talking about carbon tonnage released on certain journeys (the european average per person is 8.4 tonnes/year) can anyone tell me how much an average tractor(150hp)working 1000hrs year would produce in a year. One would have to assume this would be a mix of field and road work and the engine would be a tier 3 .

Does it matter?
The carbon it causes crops/grass to capture would show whatever the tractor’s carbon footprint is as negligible.

Considering that food production is essential to life, perhaps a fair comparison would be “what would the equivalent amount of CO2 emissions per acre be if the work was done with a horse”?

2.62kg of CO2 / litre of diesel

Just remember that emissions from your employment aren't counted in that national average figure. It gets (much more) complicated once you factor in employment

Should the emissions of an employee be counted against them, they do choose their job after all? What about the self-employed?

I go back to what we are trying to achieve; namely a big fall in global carbon dioxide emissions. On that basis surely EVERYTHING we do should be counted?

But then does the emissions of a 44T LGV driver count against them? Or their boss? Or the products they are hauling?

Most of these figures bandied around are very simplistic and many have been massaged to suit the intentions of those issuing them......
