Or to try finish earlier and spend some well deserved time with the family.

That's a fair point, but there is the other side of the coin where careless damage is done, laughed and smirked about. And it's the poor beggar that's then left to pick up the pieces who is not getting home to see the family, whilst the destroyer flounces off at 5 o'clock sharp.

I see it with some agency guys, they're not that fussed, if they get sent packing today they'll get put somewhere else tomorrow.

I totally agree, was just replying to @Fallowfield who seems to troll every thread he/she/it looks at it

Employed a guy once (briefly) that punched the electronic load display on the TMR mixer until the screen went black. He had "anger issues" .........

Worked with a lad like that.

Punched the alarm panel in the workshop and smashed it because he couldn't remember the code.
And punched the intelli screen in a T7 and smashed it for whatever reason.
No remorse.

The boss was most annoyed that he walked before he had chance to sack him!

Deduct 50% out of wages. But first you need to put it in writing on memo or letter format. Then add it to the employers handbook. Trouble is it doesn't cover the time going to collect the replacement part/labour. Depends you could ask them to collect in lunch time/afterwork in own vehicle. We've had alsorts here so called qualified mechanics who have put parts on backwards, crap welding, damage to other drivers cars etc. I think until you start putting onus on the employee nothing will change with the gun ho attitude.

er having said that, a girl that was working for us, broke hers, and took 2 days off to sort out a new one, floods of tears, we were paying her on an hourly rate, and weren't busy, so we didn't lose out. she no longer works here though

Yes I’d love to ban mobile phones at work. Been tempted to many a time. I’m sure it’s cost me a lot in repairs:(

I know a lorry man who deducts from drivers wages the bills for careless repairs,

I hit the ramp 1 day shoving sh!t into spreader with scraper, its only about 6" wider than scraper and you've to hit it near flat out to get up it! on an 880! I don't call this my fault but I didn't actually damage anything as I slammed on early enough.

The only thing I have really seen reduce damages is creating the right culture amongst the crew. If everyone will jump on the guy that breaks stuff and give him a hard time, it really seems to make an impression.

Some people just need fired though. We had one extremely hard on the four wheelers, didn’t know how bad it was till he was gone. Everything runs great now!

I hate micro managing people or going behind them and cleaning up. It will always be part of the job but it shouldn’t be all of it.
