The front axle on my tractor (case mx170) is makings knocking/ tapping sound a lot when turning and not to bad in a straight line. Any body had any experience with this before. I feel it's worn but not exactly sure what is worn without checking it out.

Yea, it's suspended axle.Is it suspended axle
If it's the independent front suspension axle that is fitted it is the carrier for the drive shaft to the hub that is rattling. You can sometimes tighten the pins up for them by the nuts on the caps on the front and back of the axle. I can't find a diagram or picture of the axle to show you. You can get hardened washers to put in to take up the play. To put them in you need to fit new bushes as well. Will warn you that parts aren't cheap.
Keep it all well greased helps a lot.
Take a few pics and stick them up..Cheers. Will have to have a closer inspection when get a chance. The only pictures I could find so far View attachment 295502View attachment 295504 although I know it's not shown as front suspension axle.

You need to slacken the lock nuts on the nuts pointed at with the grease nippels in the middle of them and tighten up the middle. They are on the cab side of the axle. 2 of them per side. If you can't tighten them any more it will need new bushes and extra washers inside. Possibly new pins which must be made from platinum the price cnh charge for them!
One thing you can do when you dont have the adjustable nuts is to remove the pin a put some shims in to reduce any possible movement. Did this to a CVX 170 about 1000 hours ago, that eliminated the banging completely and from what I have heard it still works fine!Mine does t have the nuts... Just the grease nipples and circlips. Where I'm pointing to is where the play/noise is coming from.
