Carrying over SOME of this years harvest till July 2020 onwards

If the Brexit deal is secured in next few weeks expect the GBP to rally it's tits off and UK grain and especially OSR values to plummet. So could get worse before it gets better.

I just look at snippets on twitter. Farmer in the US with flooding. Now snow. Australia with late frosts. Wet conditions across Europe same as us. And god only knows what is happening in South America. Probably drought. Something in me these prices are a forced sell. But something tells me to hang on.

Currently, I've more wheat sold than I've sown so far, and not fully sold 19 crop. So it's a consideration, yes.

I haven't sold any 20 crop yet, definitely may be an option and may also aid a potential tax burden. I would like it to get a bit cooler and drier to get the fans on mind.

My slice of the pie chart is getting smaller and smaller and smaller. And quite frankly if had enough. Buy your fert early. Get the chemistry in. Buy your new seed cos it’s running out. I feel like saying too every supplier **** it. That’s how I feel.

I CBA to order seed and chems months up front and for once being a lazy badly organised sod has paid off.
I fell for the fertiliser though. Got a shed full with nothing to put it on yet. It will keep though.
After having to get rid of neonic treated beet seed last year at a total loss to myself I am always wary of ordering anything up front that might not get used then have its licence withdrawn.

Well, I'm not going to need the shed space next year! Those with grain left to sell need to hold it well in to next year anyway. Mines all around 11 percent moisture so will keep now it's cool.

Bear in mind that “the weather is normal” doesn’t generally warrant a twitter post.

So you are bullish next year?

Two ways of taking a position....... carry this years wheat over.

Or buy futures for next year.

Depending on area the difference between ex farm wheat Nov 19 and Nov 20 futures is about £15/t.

Can you store your wheat and finance it for a year at less than £15? If so store wheat, if not consider buying futures?
