Hi all, I am a new member on this great site. My nephew has a case 4230 pro 4wd with cab. It has been left in the barn for 3yrs and would start but not Rev . We have drained the under cab fuel tank and put in fresh diesel, changed the inline fuel filter and the two canister filters. But when we came to bleed it at the top of the first canister filter we just got constant bubbles and diesel coming out , even after half an hour of pressing the lift pump. We unscrewed the face of the primer pump thinking the diaphragm was perished but it looked okay. Have ordered a new primer pump and are going to change it anyway. Can any of you good people confirm that the injection pump sucks the fuel from the tank?. Or does it have an electric pump in the tank .As the primer pump is not driven from the engine.? It seems to be sucking air in between the filter and the fuel tank. Many thanks Mike

Fuel Pipe perished?

All that case ih series depend on the injector pump lifting/suction to get the fuel so as aforementioned probably a issue with the pipe to the tank being perished.

Thank you both so much. The pipe is routed under the cab, so looks like we'll have to drop the fuel tank to replace it

Take out the banjo bolts under the fuel tanks, the ones where the feed pipes go onto.
There are, or should be a metal gauze filter on these banjo's.
Also in that hand primer you have one way little flappy valves which if they get a piece of dirt stuck in them will stop them lifting fuel properly.

Take off tanks and wash out properly and clean suction strainer filters etc,Do it once properly...if it runs from a can it has to be the tanks..

Thank you. Looks like a big job to drop the tanks. But it must be that. Thank you. I'll report back
Hi all, thank you for your suggestions. We found the air leak. On top of the diesel tank is the white plastic fuel level sender with the flow and return fuel pipes attached. We undid the five screws and lifted it out and found that the metal pipe that goes into the underneath of it wasn't sealing and allowing it to suck air as well as fuel. What a job, hope this info can help someone on here.
