Case 4230 stuck in 4wd

just for info and please do the leak test first because you mention you had trouble with the F/R pack which also runs on the 320psi, but Case IH brought out a few changes to the MFD dropbox to address leakage issues, this was from around the JJE0926262 serial no. break....new parts retro-fittable and your dealer will be aware of it

Well, I seem to have fixed the problem so many thanks to everyone who responded.
It was the wire from the 4wd switch to the solenoid in the MFD drop box that was faulty. It was showing 12 volts on the meter when I tested it, but when I put a brake light bulb in the circuit there was not a glimmer from it.
The lesson being to load a circuit as Mursal suggested.

Another problem has now surfaced; the 4wd switch works the other way round. Switched to 4wd with the little light illuminated in the switch is now 2wd and vice versa.

what I say will not be much help to you and if I am wrong I am sure I will be corrected ...if there is a fault somewhere in system either electric or hydraulic 4wd is engaged for safety reasons

Obviously fuses all checked twice?
As you know you'll need power to get it out of 4WD.
Not sure on location of the solenoid if its not on, or close to the drop box on the gearbox for the front driveshaft.

4wd switch illuminates when switched, difflock works which is off the same fuse, as is the instrument cluster which is also working,so power is getting to the switch. Just need to locate the solenoid.

I know the 56 series is somewhat different to the 4230, but on my 856 the four wheel drive solenoid is located on top of the transmission filter housing. In my case this is located on the l.h.side of the tractor between the cab steps and rear wheel. Is your tractor 40 kph? If so there maybe an accumulator type device which could actuate the four wheel drive valve/solenoid. Someone like https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?members/richard-devon.5397/or Gapples would probably know, good luck Angus.

I think the solenoid could be in the same position as on the 85 series
Which is brake pedal side of the 4wd dropbox

If you look under the rhside follow the propshaft back you'll see the Dropbox/4wd out take point
Should be on the same side as brake pedals if the same as 85sries

I'm only guessing there so don't shoot me if it's wrong

Hi can you help me please .i have a 4230 and brake lights dont work so thought id check pedal switches and there seems to be 2 ? one on each split pedal .are they both brake switches ? also they both only transfer power across terminals when switch is in ie pedal up and im thinking this doesn't make sense or does it ? if you could explain please thanks darren

One or both will be connected to the 4WD solenoid. The solenoid holds the tractor in 2WD, so it will be powered when the pedal is up. Pressing the brakes breaks the circuit to the solenoid, giving 4WD braking.
