Bigger battery is probably the simplest. Upgrade starter another.

Do you have a pull to stop in the dash? If so pull it out half way after heating and then start.

Check the glow plug in the inlet manifold. Our 4230 has a habit of burning one out every winter. Also make sure its opening up and letting diesel through, we have had a couple recently that have felt warm to touch but not heating up enough to do any good.

Our 885 received a big deep Exide battery back in the day, can't remember the size but it never failed after, and that's on its standard Lucas starter.

Lots of things can be done, dismantling the starter motor and cleaning the armature copper contacts with fine Emery cloth till they shine like new, making sure the carbon brushes are long enough . The very often replaced battery terminals with the screws into the wires often don't conduct properly, crimped and soldered is better. And the big contacts inside the starter solenoid burn uneven with time. Easy enough to check but one needs a big soldering iron.

Very surprised that block heaters aren’t available in the uk. It’s a small heater element similar to a kettle one that either goes in a core plug hole or an external one that’s plumbed in. Plug them in for an hour or overnight and a diesel motor is warm and ready to go. Easier on everything. My 90s matbro started this morning at -32 first crank over. Hydraulics were mighty stiff but after ten minutes to warm up it’s usable.

They are available nut no one buys them as not really needed. Maybe way up north they might be usefull for 1 or 2 months per year at most.

Kenlowe did pre-heaters for decades here, bloody brilliant things. Plumbed into the heater pipeline.

I had one first on my Teleshift. Crap Ford engine that was crap to start in spite of much faffing... Wonderful as it came on with a time switch so I could go to her first thing, and have a warm motor... low wear on the motor as a bonus.

I flogged the Teleshift with a porous block!! Kept the Kenlowe and put it on an old Zetor... It caught me out one time, as "someone" had turned off the heater control and the water could not circulate!

I am tempted to get another for the Kramer, purely as it is a gentler start on the motor.

Followed you link but this court my eye in the ebay adverts, nice looking little self contained night heater! Just add power and exhaust vent I guess. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/14382287...pj%2B2IDzPfHNdkt7uR4|ampid:PL_CLK|clp:2332490
