Case 4240 XL hitch problem

Hello
We bought a Case 4240 XL recently. It has some problems as you would suspect for an old tractor.

One on them is that the dromont hitch doesn't go all the way up and does not lock if I use a strap to lift it up. There is a hydraulic ram on the lock that I guess releases the lock, but I can't figure out how to move it.

Here is a picture of the hitch, it looks like the loose hose goes to the ram, but nothing happened when I connected it to the remote port.

Is there anyone here who could guide me?

The hydraulic ram as you say releases the hooks. Not been patronising at all now or teaching grannies to suck eggs but do you understand the hydraulic lift? Position lever needs to be at the top and then lift the draft lever to get the extra lift to lift the pick up hitch high enough

Ok that does explain this a bit, the draft lever does not move much. Perhaps I have to figure out why that is stuck and try again. Thanks, there is not much about this in the owners manual.

There is adjustment of the length of the rods that lift the pick up hitch. On ours they are tightened up as far as they will go but have run out of thread and it still can’t quite lift the pick up hitch high enough to latch. Presumably the lift rods have stretched over the years or their anchorage’s have bent or worn. The lift rods on our need “remanufacturing” to make them shorter or put more thread on them to give more adjustment.

As above post, the draft lever needs to be used to get them to raise them extra little bit. Try the hose in a different port also, the ram/hose on my 4230 and 856 can be temperamental at times and needs the spool lever moving back and forth

Firstly see if the lift rods can be shortened. Only need to be shortened enough to unlatch.
Also reading the op is the lactch hydraulic? Just confirming as you do not appear to have anything plugged into the spools.
There is also a way of adjusting how high the lift moves with an adjustment of a small 10mm stud accessed through a plate in the top cover. (I am assuming that this series is the same as the earlier Doncaster tractors).

Or take them off and stick a couple of washers on each side

you need to plug the loose pipe into the spools to operate the ram

Think you need to put the horseshoe back in and get one for the other side and get an assistant to operate the hydraulics so that you can see which bits are working or not working
Pointless adjusting the lift rods if that's not the problem plus if you have them to short they will be lifting the puh when your using something on the link arms
If the ram is broke you should be able to check the mechanism by hand

Hydraulically operated latch must be a homemade add on? Our tractor has just a lever in the cab to operate the latch. It never did work well.
ours had one ,we used to have to lift the draught lever as well to get a little extra lift then the latch should work either with the ram or a piece of rope/string , always had trouble explaining this to new drivers !
