My feed wagon tractor has died. Crankshaft broken! Been told £4,500 to fix it!!
Does anyone know of another engine I can drop in it? Or a price of what another engine may cost? Does it really cost this much for the repair of mine?!!

Same engine as an 885,895 and 995. Just as examples,an Agriline shaft is £375 or Enginefixuk have one on ebay for £440.Plus bearings and seals and removing and refitting would be a lot less than £4.5k!

So if I sourced parts....£1k max? And hired a Machanic to repair it here, eves/weekend, say 50hrs?!!! At £12/hr.... £600
Get my tractor running @1600??

Our local man with van mechanic was £27.50/ hr 3 years ago, likely £30/hr plus by now, which is cheap IMO, he knows his stuff spot on, and if he hasn't got the tools to do it, the job doesn't exist, yet people moan at how expensive he is, everybody's got to eat at the end of the day. If you are able to take the engine out and put it back in yourself, take it to an engine shop that does tractors as well, we have a couple up here, get it rebuilt and pop it back in.

Your block is probably shot if the crank has snapped.
There are alot of breakers about who would have a complete engine.
Personally I would be contacting McDonagh engineering who are very helpfull and know there Inters inside out.
Would ask them to build you a bottom end with new piston and liners , shell bearings and a oil pump.send your own head off
To be skimmed and new valves and seals.New water pump , thermostat and clutch and your sorted.
Have a look on there website

That's the wrong way round if anything John, the rates on the yard, electric, water, welder etc going you want £20/hr for your workshop, and more to go mobile and run a van. Our local man has a workshop and a sprinter packed to the gunnels, how it gets over the hills I dunno. Not had to have him here myself but if I was really stuck I think his £30/hr is reasonable given his overheads and the fact he's really good. What do main dealers charge nowadays?

Im quite picky as to who i choose to do work for, got a select few people who i will do the work for, knowing that if there are any issues i wont be threatened with court, summons or asked for a refund, they know if it gets sent to me it make take a bit longer, but when it comes back it will be properly right

take today, have this valtra in bits, i could have fitted a new rose bush into the worn lift ram eye, it would last a year or so...then break again. Instead the ram has been stripped, and its having an entire new eye and rose bush fitted
