Hi
I wondered if anyone might be able to give advice about removing rear pinion from 1989 856 synchromesh. The pinion gear and crown wheel got damaged after small gears in middle of diff broke. We have removed crown wheel and got cab off for cosmetic work but scratching head about pinion.
Thanks to any one that can help

You need an 844/856 transmission manual, I'm sorry I don't have one.
But it's very similar to a 956/1056, just a bit lighter in places.
To get to the pinion I'm sorry to say you start at the clutch housing & work your in from there.
The front part of the gearbox casting lifts off over the front set of gears.
You then need a big puller to withdraw the gears ( you hear them in an oven to fit them )
So effectively the pinion is almost the last bit you take out.
Find yourself a manual though, it will make life much easier.

Hi
Thanks for answering my question, I spoke to a couple of firms about parts and they said same as you about removing pinion.
So a least I'm heading right way now,
Thanks.
