Hi all, Looking into buying a Case 956xl but it only has a 30kph gearbox. I’ve heard before that you can swap a few gears in gearbox to make them 40kph. Can it be done?
The handbrake band needs doing so cab will have to come off to do that anyway.

Go on to the 6 cylinder IH group on Facebook and search there.
There's been regular discussion about it in the past and the advice from a very skilled man who has done it is don't. Its a sh!t load of work to do it properly.
Buy one with factory 40k is the advice.

Indeed, it can be done but it's an absolute ball ache of a job, a total gearbox strip down & on a 56 series that's no mean feat.
As said go to the 6 cylinder IH FB page & either the question or look it up, it's a question that keeps cropping up & all of us IH people say the same.....don't bother.
Julian is a guy who done his, he is an agricultural engineer & who worked on IH at the time so had access to the special tools required & it's still not a job to tackle.
Fortunately I can count on one hand the gearbox jobs I did on those wonderful tractors & that was too many lol.
