case cvx 160 gear selection issues

we have a cvx 160 with around 7000hrs . when i select forward and let the clutch out it starts changing from forward neutral reverse then back to forward by itself . tractor is obviously surging back and forth whilst it doing this. i was told it could be the stepper motor has anyone expierced this ? i will try to post a video now

Mine had a stepper motor at a couple of hundred hours, long time ago, kept getting STOP message,and would not go above 3k hr.

yes mine is showing the same symptoms was hoping it wouldnt be stepper motor as it still selects forward revers but keeps changing from one to another

Sounds like a stepper motor.
When you select forward the tractor should release the park lock and not move until you use the travel pedal.
Check your error codes.
It's possible the ball on the end of the stepper motor is worn and they can do all sorts when this happens
