After owning it for a couple of years some restoration has always been on the todo list just never seam to have the time, then this summer a loud knocking appeared and she's was parked up until winter for what started out as a partial engine rebuild for now but is turning into a complete front end restoration.

More pics to follow but is only letting me upload one at a time for some reason

1985/86? last of the sidedrives before the case facelift by the looks of it.
Good detective work. After I had moved on up from the 856 to a 5130 (another nice tractor with a particularly good engine) and baler my replacement managed to knacker the bearings supporting the centre propshaft and do quite a bit of damage. as I recall this was blamed on the fact that it was 40K and 4wd was activated as the brakes were pressed.

Got to love an 856! Have you got a workshop manual for that engine?

No I haven't got a workshop manual for it yet, looking for one tho if you know of any good ones? Manage to find original dealer parts manual for the tractor as a whole and an independent one for the engine alone along with an operators manual.

We had a red B reg 1056 with long levers. Syncro range change, pressure lubed gearbox with Hyran. Would think this the same.
That's a rarity, never seen a red one with long levers. I thought the order was
Red/Tan short levers up to C reg
Black/Tan short levers, C reg
Black/Tan long levers, C, possibly D reg
Black/Grey long levers, new nose, D, E reg onwards
