Case International 856xl rebuild

That's a rarity, never seen a red one with long levers. I thought the order was
Red/Tan short levers up to C reg
Black/Tan short levers, C reg
Black/Tan long levers, C, possibly D reg
Black/Grey long levers, new nose, D, E reg onwards
Long levers came out in 84ish from what I can gather. These models were marked as ergo-s on the door decal on the continent but not in the UK or Ireland which kept the plain door decal.

This pic doesn't prove the gear levers, but is our 1984 1056XL just like Super Two's pic above. We had an older 1055XL as well at the time which had short sticks. It was non syncro between high/low/rev and had 90 gear oil in the box. The 56 above was syncro with Hytran. She had Sense-o-draulic linkage as well and was the first tractor we had with air con!

That's a beauty. 56's had pressure lube gearbox, improvement over 55's in '82 IIRC. Sensodraulic came in late '83? I think the long levers brought the synchro H/L/R

We had 2 A reg 956 tractors with short gear sticks but hytran in the gearbox both where A reg . We also once had a B reg with senso hydraulics and long sticks . Have seen A reg tractors with Gear oil in the transmission you could tell by driving them or by the absence of the transmission filter.
All these tractors where square front red chassis

Always thought the upgrade to 56 signalled the change of gearbox lubrication so guessed that 80W90 would be to thick to pump so change to hy tran but i bow to your greater knowledge, i was a bit too young at the time

Early 56s had gear oil afaik. Also various different filtration set ups l think.

Had a new 56 plus in 93, sensodrolic & syncro greabox but still on gear oil in the box, hy-tran in the backend. A great gearbox to use once warmed up,( was like driving with the handbrake on first thing in the morning), just hold lever over to reverse & it took it when ready, was only 30k tho.
Thinking on it now, were the 40k boxes not all hy-tran instead of gear oil?
