What was it about the 8530 that it couldn’t use the mower? Did it have an American style quick hitch frame?
It had for one thing the great big cat 4 (or what ever its called link arms) , also it was just massive for anything other than heavy lugging. Many an impliment it wouldn't fit on.

Have to say it wss a great tractor and I loved it, but I needed one tractor to do more than one thing.

We've run a T7.315 for nearly 5000 hours, it's done a lot on an 18cube 24m dribble bar tanker which it handles well.
An excellent machine in front of a Discerator or a 6m press.

But it's been a good candidate for the extended warranty, many claims, incl an engine and a transmission....
What went wrong with engine ?

What went wrong with the transmission

I'm not sure, lost drive.

What went wrong with engine ?
No 5 piston ended up in the sump.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good tractor and we'd have another.
I was having a candid chat with an NH fitter the other day, they rarely see any other 315's having problems.
Just ours has been a problem child.

As much as a magnum sounds nicer (I own one 😊) I seriously doubt it would match an optum, and by association from the OP wipe the floor with a JD 8530 too?

T4.105 is just over 3 ton, are you seriously trying to tell me a 7610 is just over 2 ton? 7610 and t5.115 are both 4 ton ish. IIRC back in the day a 7810 wasn't much more.
We have both a magnum 315 and an optum 300. Magnum is 2 tonne heavier and pulls maybe 20%better. Optum more nimble/versatile

@daveydiesel1 I can assure you the 365 managed the mower fine, it only did a few stints if the 399 was needed for the round baler. No video of our 365 I'm afraid, It was traded in for a new 5480 in 2011. Which did the mowing until it was traded in for a 7722S in 2019.

im no Fergy expert. But I think a 7722S is heavier than a 365

Our 4cyl 130hp vario I consider a pocket rocket. A 300hp beast I consider, well.... a beast!!
All relative though isn't it? The modern pocket rockets would've been considered a big lump back in the day, and considering how the other modern 300+ models carry themselves the Optum is a pocket rocket!
At least in my opinion when switching from the MF 8740S into the Optum 300 it feels like you've just hopped into something half the size of the Fergie, not 3 quarters like the bonnet suggests!

A big thing on this size of tractor is if it goes down during a busy period you can’t just get another tractor to pull your implements as there aren’t as many of this size about as there are say 150hp tractors.

Take @TripleSix example. Engine and transmission so not a quick fix. Did your dealer back you up with a similar sized tractor? Or could you work round it by using a contractor or neighbour to help you out?

Difficult getting a loan machine sometimes.

All the jobs are manageable with one of the T7.270's then you can get away with a T7.200 as a loan machine to use for lighter work.

One point that got mentioned early on about the Optum 300/ NH T7.315 was the ability to fit larger tyres that really get the power down to the ground. 710/75/R42s seem to be very popular on these tractors and no doubt help them match up very well against anything else in the 300-350hp class. There was a video online of the Optum out performing a Fendt 930 with both pulling identical cultivators, so I seriously doubt an 828 would beat an Optum fitted with these bigger tyres. Im not sure but can the 828 fit 710/75/ R42s? Optums physically bigger than the 828 as well.

There can be lots of variables obviously, it might have not had the big boy tyres on.
I think it is very interesting it gets to be considered a compact tractor, seems to me that is only by comparison. I am not saying there is anything wrond with them, if someone is very happy with it that's great. However, there is simply nothing new are particularly special about them. I don't now how they are marketed on your turf, overhere they where introduced as compact high horsepower, which is wildly inaccurate by any measure.

The 315 is 35hp more than an 828...

Its 300 with 15hp extra on boost, I think the 828 is just 280hp straight and its definately smaller, and isnt it due for replacement with a bigger 700 series, 728, 730??

I think the point is that back in the day if you wanted 300hp you had a gert lump of steel and a giant bonnet attached to it. The Optum seems to be plenty capable enough in terms of power but it is physically smaller than the Magnum and probably handier in the field or on the road. I noticed the straw grinder man in this region of the world is now in Optums whereas previously he had a Magnum on the front. For his job it is probably a no brainer to use the smaller machine.

Mind you, the Puma these days can be had with some pretty serious horsepower on board, just like the 6R series Deere.

Anyone who has sat in an 8 series Deere or a Magnum for any length of time will probably recognise that the Optum may be the more desirable machine for some jobs. I've never driven or sat in an 828 but I presume that tractor is smaller than a 900 series Fendt as well?
