Would like a cattle container, float if in NE Scotland! to put on a flat trailer. Ideally 28ft, but anything around this size I will consider. Don't need sheep decks. If anyone has one for sale or knows of one coming up for sale I would be grateful if you could let me know.

True but if you buy a stewart you would be spending twice what a haulier would cost you for the rest of your life !! and he throws in a man fuel and all the paper work sh!t.

You do not have to wait hours for them to turn up to move cattle with your own float. A well looked after float will have a low depreciation as well.
But on the other hand no outlay, no maintenance, I would take first option.

Not just out lay and maintenance, also labour wear n tear on tractor, fuel and insurance, time you sit about waiting for the haulier will be less than washing it out, I have gave it great thought in the past and have decided to stay with haulier for now so far no regrets. As for Jon Burgess he deals in bottom end trade ins and wants a small fortune for it.

Interesting observation.

Speak as I find, I'm glad to say I had a different experience, as have several folks I've recommended

It's true he'll not always have in stock what anyone wants as containers are such a specific thing and the older ones on his website might stick a bit but over the years Jon's sold hundreds of new containers and bought and sold secondhand of all ages, bought in and part exchange. Some of the two year old wagon and drag combinations he's bought from the likes of the Jeff Conway retirement would be way out of my league.

He also does a lot of conversion work

This is the Houghton container I bought from Jon. It was originally 30ft and he cut it down to 26ft, repainted it, fitted a one piece cow door with wheel on swing end and slam lock and converted the front decks so the cow door would store against the head board. It had 8ft hydraulic run-up and the original container I bought from him was £4,000 + VAT. To my mind a very good buy compared with a new one at around £1200 / ft run.

Jon bought it back off me a few years later for what I paid for the container (excluding the conversion works). I thought I had a very fair deal TBH
