Cattle handling project

Seriously envious right now.
When I worked for a guy out in Sweden, he had a very good setup and was always adding to it in order to make it easier for fewer people to handle the cattle. Its an absolute pleasure to work with people like that as they are more focused on safety and also on reducing animal stress as well as making it more efficient.
Hat off to you, That's a very nice system.

Very smart, and envious. How many cattle did you test and how long did it take? Did you get and problems with smaller/younger animals turning in it. I’d be tempted by a roof over the crush area where you work. Clipping cattle etc in the rain is no fun.
Put just over 100 through in 2 hours...the job was slowed down by the vet not the system...cows were queuing up waiting for him
Some of the smaller calves did turn but soon turned back when you leant over the top with a bag
We’ve always worked outside with the old system, just it was knackered...so used to getting wet

Like the sliding gate just behind the crush so you can have one ready to come in, would also stop them backing up and also pushing through too fast?

When we bought the curved race it stopped at the sliding gate, it seemed pointless having a sliding gate then the crush door so we made two gates long enough to hold one cow before it went into the crush...and yes it slows them down and stops them forcing back

Very tidy. Would it be too rude to ask how much that setup is without the crush and concrete?
Probably around 12k, that’s for the circular forcing pen, curved race, sliding gates, then all the steel we bought, the galvanising ect, then on top of that 70 ton of stone @ £12/T and 3 loads of concrete @ £498 per load
So probably 15k
Which compared to a combine which costs 250k and only works 5 days a year is cheap

It looks well, I am planning on putting up something similar with a circular forcing pen with a diameter of 16ft, what diameter is your forcing pen and how many cows would it hold

Ours is just over 6 meters in diameter (20ft)
Not sure how many it will hold as I’ve just been putting 6 or 7 in the forcing pen at a time
