Got a couple of cattle for welsh winter fair next week. Been on a 14% ration. What can be given to harden the muck up as just shutting abit loose. On Adlib and free access to straw.

Damn... I thought this would be about something else and was going to suggest no more than one a day...

Feed your normal ration in small amounts through the day

Adlib forage

Increase Ruman ph will let the microbes digest the forage and breakdown the digestible starches slower

Really

Maximum growth rate will be 2kg per day ish

Feeding enough to get to this is all that is needed anymore is just wasted and passes straight through

Little and often will convert better than large sudden amounts

Keep the ph right and long fibre to make the gut work

Do cattle really need 10kg plus of hard feed to gain 2kg ?

I don’t think the op is so concerned about economic beef production, but more having them at 110% at the Welsh Winter Fair, e very different game.

All my finishing cattle get a small amount of beet pulp
Yes small amounts will be fine. But if you feed a large amount it will swell in the gut and fill out your beast potentially making a show beast look gutty I'd have thought
I'd just drop the meal and feed just hay for a day or 2 before the show to dry them up. You shouldn't lose any condition in that time. You can always feed the meal once at the show as it helps settle them to have a familiar feed.

Hay I’ll make them more gutty than pulp will....but do as you please

Wheat straw. The barley is too soft. So just the ration a bit putting some soaked beetpulp and rolled oats. Found some coarse Hay just a bit seem to be firming up.
