Cattle stick

What a load of ? a piece of blue pipe is perfect light and cheap. These cattle prods and wooden sticks shouldn’t be used in my opinion. A piece of 20mm blue pipe should be used to tap them to let them know your there and to make it so you don’t have to get so close to them
What’s the difference in a wooden stick to a length of alkethene pipe...

The sticks I’m referring to aren’t prods. They are a light fibreglass handle with a plastic paddle on the end which has a rattle built in. You’ve obviously not used one so how can you comment what works on our system?

This sort of thing. Less than £15 last time.

Just tie a empty feed bag on the end of a piece of pipe

Tried it today, nowhere near as effective. I can normally stand at the back of the race and sort cows from calves by putting the paddle in front of the calves, but just didn’t work today.

They work so well for our system I’d happily pay £50 for one, it’d still be value for money. Just can’t find them to buy now.

Surely your arm would flex before you ended up with a stake through the heart...
Yes, it was an extreme example but I’ve been with others that have sticks and I’ve thought I might have felt safer with plastic when a cow has backed up against their stick and the it’s come in my direction. Many also cut them too long and they’re nothing but a nuisance
