I will condense what I wrote before;
A ground plane is important. Modern tractors have plastic roofs. Glue a sheet of tin to your roof. Don't go drilling holes in a £50000k tractor! Put the ariel in the middle of this.
Don't forget twins are directional. Bottom loaded or mid loaded ariels are fine. Try to avoid those that have a big spring on the bottom, although these are good when stationary they will give a wobbly signal when on the move as they wobble!
Get your SWR lowest on the channels that you use the most. Run your co ax cable before fitting the PL259 connector this will ensure you don't have big holes everywhere!
If you can find a 'yorkshire red rooster' you will have some serious mobile talking power!SS
