I will condense what I wrote before;
A ground plane is important. Modern tractors have plastic roofs. Glue a sheet of tin to your roof. Don't go drilling holes in a £50000k tractor! Put the ariel in the middle of this.
Don't forget twins are directional. Bottom loaded or mid loaded ariels are fine. Try to avoid those that have a big spring on the bottom, although these are good when stationary they will give a wobbly signal when on the move as they wobble!
Get your SWR lowest on the channels that you use the most. Run your co ax cable before fitting the PL259 connector this will ensure you don't have big holes everywhere!:)

If you can find a 'yorkshire red rooster' you will have some serious mobile talking power!SS

All the rigs you can buy new now a days are utter crap compared to the old un's from the later 80's early 90's, find yourself an old rig with a cybernet board and you laughing. Eg Harvard 420m, radiomobile 202, Rotel 240 most of the Ham International's are good unfortunately these won't fit into the spare din sockets in ya cab.
