What are you actually trying to view, and do you have the option to route ethernet cables and power?

I'd like to initially set it up in the sheep shed for lambing and also in the calving pen. I also wondered about putting it on the end of my house facing the drive & road.

The buildings are the other side of the house so running an Ethernet cable is easy. Our kitchen / living room faces away from the road so it's not easy to see anything coming.

I've bought one & if I like it I'll get another. Is Ethernet cable Cat 5 ?
Thanks

Hi

Yes ethernet cable is Cat5, can be Cat6 etc. I used cat 6 on my set up.

One thing to be aware of with dome cameras, is that the covered ones can give very poor results when on IR, so my advice would have been to go for something like this.
Additionally, for far superior night vision, look at using stand alone illuminators like this, they are far better than built in IR.

As you can get ethernet to your locations, you will also get far superior images vs wifi.

Additionally, you can go up to 90 mtrs with ethernet cable before having to add other kit.

Be alright up to 300m without any extra kit apart form baluns at either end

Are you refering to analogue cctv to cat5 here, as the camera in question does not have bnc, it has female ethernet fitting?

My point about run length was in relation to running ethernet for ip poe cameras over 90 mtrs, it usually requires power for the camera due to drop in the cable whereby you can then start to have issues with your system.

I wasn't trying to be rude in my question, so please accept my apologies if it came across wrong. I was just trying to understand if you had additional information about long run ip setups, as I have a run of 300 mtr to get around which the previous owner installed a single continuous length of cat 5 to run cctv which doesn't work (also didn't run it in a conduit underground, just used armoured) and all I can gather is that it is due to the length of run.

So before I progress to lay a fibre cable donw my drive, I thought I would ask which system you were referring to, in case I have an alternative option.

No was certainly not offended
It was me that didn`t read your post correctly
I did not realise you where wanting POE
No idea on that
I have a run of just short of 300m on cat 5
But camera is powered at the camera end

I'm also after a PoE camera for my calving pen but struggling to find cheap infra red one with microphone?

Cheap ? Very much a case of you get what you pay for with IP cameras. We got one of these
Foscam FI9828W 1.3MP x3 Optical Zoom with Pan/Tilt/Zoom Wireless IP Outdoor Camera
Works fine mounted high up in 20 ft x 70ft pen. Think you been in our straw pen behind robots ? Has fittings for sound but never needed it.

Which to use, cat cable or cctv cable for 60 meter run?

What camera and what cables? Ethernet is good for 90m as ethernet, Video over Cat5/6 depends on the balun, active or passive? Passive might struggle, High grade Composite cable RG59 copper over copper is good for up to 100m but may need a line driver (easy if you have power at the camera) if powering the camera remotely then volf drop on Cat5 will be alot (thin conductors) better use 2 core and RG59 or power closer if possible.
