Cloud is expensive for cctv

Look at systems like HIKvisiin etc that record to a dvr. Not expensive and you have the recording at all times and no cloud subs to pay

You can still access online via phone free apps or any device with a browser etc

Biggest issue with cloud providers is will your service exist in a few years when they have gone bust ? Leaving you with a load of useless hardware. Small providers in this area have no chance of survival long term with the likes of Nest etc around

I’m not massively interested in storage, per se. I could really do with push notifications of some sort - a call or text on my phone, with a live feed viewable. I live less than a mile from the yard.

Is this a thing?

The system I have at my house has 7 external cameras records to a DVR

There is a free app on my phone that works with it that can be accessed anywhere I have 3G and it can be configured to notify movement etc within certain hours etc - there are no subscription fees

Picture quality is fantastic even when dark and hard wired not Wi-fi etc which can be flaky as I was advised against IP systems as they can overload networks if you have a lot of cameras apparatley

It cost £1500 fully installed which I think is great value

I also have a couple of NEST cams inside in kids bedrooms to make sure they behave ! Bought purely as plug and play / not expensive but they are cloud and have a monthly sub to pay

Pretty confident companies like nest are here to stay as they are global brands but who knows when you‘re considering smaller companies that provide cloud services

Cloud isn’t on my list of requirements, as I don’t use it at the moment and have no great need to review footage.

I want to know when somebody is on-site, so I can be there in a hot minute. I’m not looking to recreate any scenes from AWOL - I’d struggle to biff my way out of a bag made from soapy bubbles - but I’m large enough and loud enough to make the casual thief drop my things and hop it.

I’d much prefer that over the faff of police, insurance, serial numbers etc. Showing up in quick time will also act as a deterrent, too - they’re less likely to return if they know how quickly they get spotted.

Go with Hikvision or Dahua. You can set them up with motion/line detection etc and your phone will alert you when needed. SMS alerts are antique so forget about that. Newer method of alerts these days.

If you go with the latest h.265 EasyIP 3.0 Hikvision cams etc, they support onboard memory cards that allow you to record if needed without the need of an NVR.

Anybody know of any good systems out there at the moment. Looking for 2 / 3 camera system. Can wire if better but wireless easier. Then record and play on a mobile with alert. Any advice appreciated.

We using Spypoint Link-S trail cameras. solar powered. night vision. record video and photos on memory card. and send photos straight to to spypoint app. £500 each plus about £120 a year for the sim card that come with the camera. its is instant photos to your phone within a minute of something setting the camera off, so you know straight away if cars or any movement take place.and you can put them where ever you like and do not need electric or internet.

Just had hikvision system updated to hd but one thing installer forgot was internet speeds. We've got ok speeds of 12 meg down load but 0.5 upload so trying to rewind/ playback is stop start. Ok for live viewing.
Old system was good but newer hd usees more internet
