Cefetra survey

I received an email from Cefetra today asking me to complete a survey on human rights compliance and sustainability issues

This is to help the German parent company meet their “ecological and social responsibility and legal obligations in our supply chains”

A couple of my thoughts are…

Nope, bugger off

What would you pay me if I did ??

Clearly, RT isn’t robust enough to deliver this?

Are all the companies I sell commodities to going to want this information, duplicated and time consuming?

Anyway, I’ve emailed them back asking how much they will pay me for this information…
Large traders and processors are going to want more information from us, I’m happy to provide it but they need to pay us for it because if I sell to a local small company or direct to farm I don’t have to provide this information that takes up my time and costs me money, it’s their responsibility so they need to pay for it if they want our products, a single body should be able to collate this info into a standard that all buyers accept and pay us for but the laughable GFC failed abysmally of course

There’s going to be more and more of these demands going forward, we need some industry unity on this ??

Thoughts please…

You have answered your own question. Trade with a smaller local company. You have to accept the risks though. Ultimately global companies ain’t going to pay you a penny more than they have to. The more regulation there is the higher proportion of commodities will be traded internationally and the more power global traders will have. “Net zero” and the fraudulent carbon offsetting and trading that goes with it are a big part of this quest for market dominance. If farmers want unity they all have to reject and condemn such dishonesty instead of participation in rip off carbon “markets”. It’s not possible to pick and choose from the corporate global menu, the individual has to swallow the lot.

It's a requirement already for the likes of Quaker and their parent company, PepsiCo.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when faced with a 300 line spreadsheet with questions like "Do you employ indigenous people?" -Yes, we're all indigenous.
And, (from memory, something like:) "Do you require pregnant women to work with pesticides?" No, we do not.

And all so that we could sell PepsiCo milling oats for (at the time) £130/tonne, and they could retail the same oats in small individual serving sachets for £13,000 /tonne.

The idea of employing Indigenous people in the UK is a lark considering that any given person could be of almost any hereditary ancestry. The UK was a major maritime trading nation and took people in from virtually every corner of the world for hundreds of years when we weren't being invaded by virtually half of Europe.

As far as I'm concerned we're all from Africa anyway.

And you ask me what on earth i am talking about🤣🤣

What are you talking about?
I am not from Africa...

Errr yes, you are. At least you are if you evolved from the same species as the rest of us? 🤷‍♂️

First thoughts are... Ask Cefetra if you can have a reciprocal arrangement where they will sign to ensure you are trading with an ecological and social responsibility and your legal obligations. You have to cover yourself/ business as much as they have to do theirs.
What happens when they import from wherever??? 🤣🤣

Not the same company, but a large malt trader we deal with waits till movement.

I called asking why payment hadn't come through.

They then announced all the additional information they required regarding field applications and carbon info, this had to be provided before payment received.

Frontier/warburtons have some questions like that as part of the new contract terms, paying £50/ha for it.
