celiac, who and how effected

Why are so many people allergic to, or intolerant of, so many things nowadays?

Was it always like this but we just didn't know, or has something happened to us, or our food, or both?

In case of celiac its definitely better diagnosis. Years ago it would just be living with an upset stomach not knowing the reason why. Now once you have been diagnosed you can actually do something about it just by amending your diet.

Out of curiosity, what symptoms are people having, I suspect I may be to some degree but not tested.
Also do you need to go total gluten free? It seems to be in everything tasty. Does reducing Intake improve symptoms?

I am Mrs Renewable John here. I have been diagnosed as Coeliac for 18 months now. It is diagnosed by a blood test and possibly a biopsy of your guts. Once diagnosed you cannot eat gluten again. without gluten in your diet your guts will repair itself. It really is a case of totally removing gluten from your diet. If in doubt get yourself tested as the gluten will continue to harm your guts in the long term and take longer to heal. you will find food to eat i promise you.

update this.

getting on well lately, making own bread, bought a bread maker seems ok on the 4th recipe. fruit is still limited. general shopping is easy enough. plenty of yogurts and now using the coliec app to scan barcodes-very handy.

I was chatting to a friend I don't see too often and they have a wheat allergy, since she got married all the house shopping and food has been based around this, after a few months the husband was at his mums house for teas and had sandwiches with normal bread, got the upset stomach and tiredness symptons. it was as if his body was no longer able to tolerale/digest wheat.

Well we have had an excellent gluten free christmas thanks to Aldi with its tasty gluten free christmas puddings and mince pies and Iceland with a gluten free 3 bird roast with stuffing. Guinea Fowl, Phesant and Partridge.

My little grandson has been diagnosed celiac recently, he’s only 4. We used to love dunking Hobnobs together.:(

There’s been a suggestion that he might grow out of it, is that possible?

If he just has a wheat intolerance, then possibly he’ll grow out of it, but if he has a clinical diagnosis of coeliac disease it’s very unlikely.

At least nowadays there are some decent gluten free biscuits which you can dunk together

There was a huge amount of free from stuff available this Christmas.
Morrisons were running ads for it, M&S do loads, and it is really good. I got given a yule log from M&S, absolutely delicious.
Mr kiplings gluten free mince pies were exceedingly good.
It really isn't an issue being able to enjoy food wheat free now, apart from cost it is all more expensive but I'm happy for the price, as long as its top notch stuff.
