Central Greasing System

Never had anything to do with them but looked at a used machine this week that had one fitted. Dealer said it had been disconnected as a few points had blocked or blown so owner had started fitting nipples all round.
Most of it seemed intact but would it take much to get it going again or are they problematic?

Nothing beats greasing each point individually and seeing grease come out. Pumping away at a central point is a great time and effort saver, but you have no idea whether that crucial bearing hidden away somewhere is getting any grease or not. My small baler knotters had central lube, I've done away with it in favour of individual nipples. If one spot is getting stiff and not taking grease easily I know about it.

Groweresque he may be referring to the common system of loading a cartridge of grease into a dispenser and the grease is automatically pumped. It’s very handy and one less thing to worry about not having time to do. I trust the system on my Fusion Baler 100% but on my Kuhn Baler I have no faith in it at all.

It's fantastic, we have it on our forestry machines, loader and baler. Saves a fair bit of time to just go around and check that there's grease rather than actually greasing everything manually.

we bought a press with a Lincoln auto lube fitted and it’s great, as you say just check for grease rather than greasing.

I've had loads of them on machines in a past job, when they work they are brilliant but as Speedstar has said the right grease is key and checking that each point is lubed every so often. The main issue we had was with operators running them running dry and never working properly after.

So do the hoses block up over time which would stop a certain area getting grease? Guessing this is why he's disconnected it and put some nipples on.
Also, what is the right type of grease for these?
