MCCONNEL UNVEILS NEW RANGE OF ROLLERS

AT CEREALS 2016

McConnel will showcase its new Consolidator range of premium arable rollers at Cereals Show (Stand 1032).

The company has enhanced its product portfolio after its recent merger with Twose of Tiverton, and can now offer a comprehensive choice of three, five and seven-gang rollers with working widths from 6.4m and 18.4m

McConnel.JPG

The robust rollers are among the heaviest in the industry – delivering even ground pressure across the width of the roller and feature a unique castellated ring profile that ensures constant soil pressure for greater moisture retention and a weather-proof finish.

Each section centre-pivots independently for a smooth and even reaction to undulating ground conditions, ensuring close contour-following and outstanding seed to soil contact.

Strength and durability are boosted by an exceptionally robust design, triple sealed bearings, and 65mm steel shafts, while the heavy duty frame design allows for excellent contour following when the hydraulic system is in the float position.

Four different roller configurations are available with a choice of 22” and 24” Cambridge rings and 22” and 24” Cambridge rings with Cambridge breakers available.

The rollers come with a wide range of options including spring-mounted levelling boards to break down clods and plough ridges leveling the ground to deliver smooth and even consolidation.

Two rows of 8mm spring tines are also available. When working in crop stubble the tines help to evenly distribute straw and surface residue – distributing slug eggs and encouraging a flush of volunteers to germinate.

Note to editors

Other key features of McConnel’s Consolidator range of rollers include:

* McConnel’s seven-gang rollers are also equipped with an innovative weight transfer system across each section; five individual pivot points for close-contour following; and a smooth folding mechanism for rapid transition from work to transport mode.

* Proven to thrive in a wide range of different soil types and conditions.

* Heavy-duty construction throughout with a 65mm shaft and external 65mm bearings for greater longevity and durability

* Simple, fast-acting folding system ensures rapid transition to and from the full-width working position

* Optional commercial-spec braking system and braked axles are available on 10.2m, 12.2m and 15m models reducing stopping distances and easing the strain on tractor brakes

* Eccentric cams for lateral adjust of the rings.

* Triple sealed bearings for enhanced durability

* A safe transport lock and support for wing sections on the 10m, 12m and 15m models

* Stone trays

New Holland’s Methane Power tractor makes UK debut at Cereals

UK farmers’ first chance to see New Holland’s new T6.180 Methane Power tractor

for the first time
NH1.JPG

·This tractor represents a key step in achieving New Holland’s goal of Energy Independent Farming

·New Holland staff will be on hand to explain how it works and answer any questions

Farmers attending this year’s Cereals event will get their first look at New Holland’s T6.180 Methane Power tractor which was unveiled at Agritechnica.

The second generation prototype is based on a New Holland T6.180 standard tractor and features a 175hp (129kW) Nef 6 engine developed by FPT Industrial that delivers 740Nm torque.

The nine gas cylinders have a total capacity of 300 litres (52kg) compressed methane, sufficient for approximately half a day of normal tractor operations.

The second generation Methane Power T6.180 delivers significant fuel saving of 20% to 40% compared to conventional fuels.

This tractor is an important step in achieving New Holland’s goal of energy independent farming as the methane is generated through renewable biomass production. When using bio-methane, the machine’s carbon impact is virtually zero.

On environmental performance, the new machine has 80% less polluting emissions than a standard diesel tractor and is already capable of fulfilling future greenhouse gas targets, which are expected to require a 20% reduction in emissions across Europe by 2020.

Martin uses a 3000l Bateman RB26 with 24m booms to spray a wide range of combinable crops, maize, and grassland. With 11 years spraying under his belt, Mr Daw continually looks for ways to improve public and crop safety. Due to the diverse range of crop protection products he is applies across many different farms and crops, he has developed a system whereby he records all the products that have been mixed in the tank throughout the day. This ensures that the correct wash out procedures are carried out of subsequent days no matter who the operator is. Due the large proportion of on the road travelling that Martin undertakes, he also carries a Dammit leak sealing putty which can be used to block any leakages or drains in the event of an accident. This idea came from the chemical transport industry.

Martin’s Top Tip

Excitement builds in advance of fungicide launch

A trip of a life time to the first home of Syngenta’s new SDHI fungicide SOLATENOL™, is up for grabs this summer.

Launching at Cereals 2016, and continuing throughout the summer at their Innovation Centres and Platform Sites, Syngenta are running a prize draw competition, with one lucky pair winning the chance to visit South America, the first continent to launch SOLATENOL™.

“After an 11 year journey from lab to field, SOLATENOL™ was launched in 2014, in Brazil for use on soybean, sugarcane, maize, beans and cotton to control rust and soy disease,” explains Andrew Curtis, fungicide campaign manager at Syngenta.

“This is something we are extremely proud of as a global company, and there is a lot to see and learn from what growers across the globe, and trials in Europe have already achieved. The summer events are the perfect opportunity to see how SOLATENOL™ has already been delivering, and the potential of the fungicide active in the UK market.

“We know that SOLATENOL™ can, and is performing across different crop varieties and field situations in trials. This summer there’s the opportunity for one lucky pair to experience this for themselves in South America. Seeing really is believing with SOLATENOL™,” he explains.

There are multiple opportunities to get involved and enter the competition this summer. Visitors to Syngenta’s Cereals stand and demo sites throughout June and July will need to answer questions about SOLATENOL™, with the opportunity to enter at both Cereals and the summer demo days.

“Our open days at our Innovation Centres and Platform Sites are open to all, and are an ideal opportunity for growers to experience SOLATENOL™ first-hand, at a local level.

“Tremendous research and development investment has gone into the SOLATENOL™ project, and this has given us a complete understanding of how SOLATENOL™ works.

“It consistently performs well as a fungicide providing complete leaf protection inside and outside the leaf,” he explains.

“This once in a lifetime trip is an opportunity not to be missed. Even if you’re not the main prize winner, there are plenty of mini prizes also up for grabs,” says Mr Curtis.

Sumo logo RGB.jpg

Some of the most innovative – and British made – cultivation, drill and seeding equipment from Sumo will be on show, and demonstrated, at the Cereals Event this week (June 15-16).

Heading the line up on their demonstration plot, opposite their stand (800), is the deep tillage seeder, or DTS, specifically designed to enable farmers and contractors to exploit the advantages of strip tillage, but with the versatility to be equally effective in plough-based and minimal tillage systems.

The company’s iconic Trio – which is available as a mounted, trailed rigid or trailed folding machine – will also be shown, along with one of the newer additions to the range; the DD toolbar, a low disturbance disc drill designed to work in a zero or no-till seed bed, previous residues and cover crops.

Completing the line-up on the working demo plot is the Low Disturbance Subsoiler, or LDS, again designed to work in conjunction with zero or minimal tillage crop establishment systems. It has the ability to alleviate compaction with the minimum of surface disturbance, allowing oxygen and water infiltration.

Three of the company’s front weights will be used, as well as a front hopper. More of the weights (ranging from 1000kg to 2500kg) will be on the Sumo stand.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming all our current customers, and new customers, to our stand,” says managing director Simon Herring. “We’re proud to be showing some of the most innovative equipment at the event, and the fact that it’s both designed and built in Britain – in Yorkshire – is a real positive.

“We’re known for having both durable and practical machines, and in offering second-to-none sales support from our team of specialists.”

Also on the Sumo stand at the event will be:

· Quatro 3m

· Trailed Mixidisc 6m

· Mounted Trio 3m c/w Sumoseeder & Single Disc Openers

· GLS 4

· DD 6m

· DTS 3m
