[QUOTE="Dry Rot, post: 8154943, member: 4505"] Sadly, there is a nation wide ignorance about the nature of dogs here in the UK -- as illustrated here. Nothing unusual about that. I bought my first dog at a cattle market at the age of 14 for one shilling (5p) and went home to face parental wrath. Five years later, I was hunting a pack of 40 hounds. Except when at college, I've always had a dog...or dogs, sometimes up to 40, all my own. When I moved here 40 years ago, I went round all my neighbours and said if they experienced any trouble with a dog of mine to come and tell me and I'd lend them a gun so they could shoot it. I had my own flock for years. So far, so good. I've written numerous magazine articles and was commissioned to write a book. I have competed and won field trials. I don't say much on here because people have engrained opinions and, frankly, I can't be bothered with the uphill struggle to educate them. Does that qualify me to know what I am talking about? I've posted photos on here of my working German shepherd, Max, having his belly scratched and fed pieces of carrot by his best pal, a 17 year old girl. I've also posted a video of the same dog at 15 months attacking my 'helper' on command with serious intent, then being called off to lick the same man's hand when told he is 'a friend'. Dogs' minds do not work the same as humans'. Dogs are not humans and they certainly are not children. Some breeds have inbred bite inhibition, others have been bred to bite as it's needed in the job they do. Most are trainable to some extent. Get rid of the ignorance rather than the dogs. The TV series, "Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly", is a start. Sadly, not much is explained so people are still going to have stupid relationships with dogs. Keeping working dogs as pets is just plain stupid. Leaving young kids and dogs together unsupervised is plain stupidity. 'Playing" with dogs needs to be done with intelligence or they can get the wrong ideas. I can't think of any cure for stupidity, laws won't do it and never have. It's everywhere you look. It's at this stage I usually delete my post and mutter "What the hell". I'm 82 and going to be dead soon and so it isn't really my problem.
