I’ve had an email yesterday that CF are stopping production of AN at Billingham and Ince, due to the cost of gas . It doesn’t say how long for, but it’s not good news
How have government allowed one company to have all the AN production in the uk . I thought there were laws regarding monopolies

I was told the billingham factory Is worn out and needs a lot of money spending on it. Maybe it’ll never open again.

What a mess. Sell what I’ve bought and go on holiday for a year. No glyphosate; no plough metal, no lorry drivers, no workers.
Somebody needs to get their finger out.
Stop the further imposition of damaging enviro regs.
Restore the easy employment of immigrant labour. Stop throwing obstacles in the path of business at every turn.
Are they even aware of this rapidly developing crisis?

No Energy prices are going mad. The fire in Kent will not have helped. Is there even enough energy to go round now?

Had a friend who is an energy trader the other day actually ask me about the fert market. That was a first.

The article on the FT suggested it may only be a short-term issue, though that may be wishful thinking.

How the government thinks casting British Agriculture aside and relying on imports (which can't get in due to driver shortages, protests, Suez Canal blockages, Covid) is going to work, is beyond belief.

Government held an emergency meeting of the Civil Contingencies Secretariat yesterday (as in the people behind the Civil Contingencies Committee - COBRA) to discuss the future implications of high gas prices and specifically the closure of the CF factories. They're obviously well aware that no fertiliser = no bread = "three missed meals away from riots in the street".

CF will presumably have forward booked a large chunk of their gas requirement, which they'll now be selling off at a profit since they've shut their plant?

Maybe the government could levy a windfall tax, and redistribute it amongst the farmers.

well we all know that supermarkets are the "key workers" who keep us supplied with food, and as Nichola Sturgeon told farmers in Scotland, they could go back to work at the end of the first lockdown, luckily she allowed the supermarkets to stay open so everyone was supplied with food!
