Your first paragraph is the whole reason that the main manufacturers pulled out of OZ.. their argument was two-fold... firstly quads are designed for active riding..... shifting your body weight...if you need roll over protection buy a side by side which is fitted with a certified roll frame...and secondly, although the safety authorities are mandating the fitment of roll over protection, there has been no independent testing to prove their efficacy, unlike the US, where independent testing has proved they can cause injury. Incidentally, some of the devices, especially those being sold in NZ and Au are bolted to the rear carrier frame, which has a load rating of 80kg.. easily overloaded in a dynamic rollover
I certainly don't blame them, I mean in a lot of cases where a rider is clearly at fault, the blame / responsibility is shifted "to someone else"

.. stuff being that someone else!

IMHO if you want rollover protection to be fit for purpose, it has to be an integral part of the design of either the vehicle [at manufacture] or attached to the vehicle properly. I've seen quad racks fail for a variety of reasons - electric fence winders, people attempting to tow bogged vehicles or even lift them from the racks... there's nothing about solid rollover bars on quads that I like

I agree completely and suggest that post number 42 shows how accidents can happen.." then later in day jumped on it and off I go and came to a bit that’s very very steep but I normally just fly up it in sport mode, but it’s in work mode and I forget , get near top of this very steep bank and it runs out of steam so I’m stuck flick it into sport mode but she’s going to rear ! """ the words "very very steep" and fly up it is Sport Mode gives me shivers.. I was always told the first rule of riding ATVs is to know what the escape plan is if it all goes pear shaped!!!
