Does anyone adjust /tune the carb of their new internet bought chainsaw (as opposed to local dealer bought from who probably made sure it was spot on before it went out ?? )
Got one here running a red hot exhaust,so ive stopped using forthwith.... methinks its running too lean .. as everything thing else seems in order?

im quite happy to have a fiddle ,just wondered as a matter of interest what other people do .

Don’t know if it’s right but I’ve always adjusted the high jet till it’s screaming it’s nads off and turned it a little rich to gain some composure again.

seeing as we’re on the subject….. how are we adjusting carbs in e10 capable small engines? A little more rich I guess. Loads of stories regarding them blowing up yet both the larger manufacturers, stihl and husky, are saying there machines can take e10 since min 2000’s or something like that.

I think the main issue with E10 is leaving it in the machine when not using it causing gumming up the carb and eating rubber parts. There's a few fuel stabilizer additives available but haven't tried any yet. Still getting e5 from town yet

Talking to a guy who came to thin our trees out, he'd had no end of bother regarding E10, gumming of carbs and running hot using premium brand chain saws aswell. Having to run super unleaded, costing a fortune.

For someone using saws all day every day it might be expensive but most farms,a gallon of fuel will last ages and it's only going to be an extra 50p or so. Stihl and husqvarna sell premixed 50:1 that causes no issues and keeps for two years but it's £19 for 5 litres. Run the saw on standard fuel until it's empty and put an egg cup full of theirs in at the end of the day

I try an adjust the high carb screw using a rev meter, pickes up the signal from the spark plug cable, without taking the top cover off. Get the air filter cleaned, saw warmed up , then adjust the max revs to the manufacturers max, or slightly less, less chance of a siezure if their running on the rich side.

Ffs its 10p a litre more for super unleaded, hardly a fortune. Probably runs a cheap 2 stroke oil as well but wouldn't blame that.

SU is hardly a vast increase in cost? Alternative is Aspen and it almost doesn't go off or gummy.

Are you using a "running in mix" still?
(More oil=less fuel per cc of air/fuel mix so that means lean running)

but yes I would adjust the carb screws

Good point Pete the answer is no just mixed at 50 to 1 up to now ( not used it much mind you) better if if went to 40 . 1 for a while ?

could be hes still a bit tight ,never noticed it before but was getting dark and my attention was drawn to a very :oops:red hot centre part of the exhaust , he runs fine tho otherwise and startsok.
