Thinking of using chalk floor on straw/machinery shed
1) is it better than crushed limestone or road planings
2) is it cheaper than the above
3) where can I get it

If you're in a chalky area you will get it delivered free, we use it a lot in cattle sheds / cow tracks etc. Get it right and it goes like concrete, get it wrong and it goes like porridge!

There’s chalk and then there’s CHALK
Huge variation
The super white-soft-small lumped stuff round here is ace

The big-lumpy-hard sh!t with a yellow tinge is just that.......sh!t! Waste of time putting it down

Ask around, speak to local digger drivers they’ll, tell you what’s hot and what’s NOT

£11/t ish locally

There seem to be so many variations of ‘chalk’ round here. The best stuff we’ve found to go down tight is almost like a paste when wetted with a bit of water, then whacked down, goes as smooth as concrete. Problem with this stuff is it’s full of flint. Next quarry we try has no flint but the chalk is all hard round stone size of a golf ball which don’t break up when whacked so however tight you put it down the cows seem to manage to scrub it up when used as a cubicle base with a thin layer of straw. Is there a ‘grade’ of chalk for example that has no flint and is soft enough to go down tight? Or any suppliers if such a product?

I already have a loose house with a chalk floor the tyres don't dig in it they just spin on top I have been very happy with it it though it did raise concerns when I bought the farm

Where did the chalk come from? How much was it per ton delivered and how deep do you put it?
