I've spent a few days recently driving a 4 cylinder John Deere 6130R, and I'm very very underwhelmed. It's half the tractor a 6430 premium is, whilst being twice as numb.
Big p
Big pumping contractor had 10+ 6140R’s that all powered 10’ front and backs with ease, up to speeds of 17mph when fields allowed. I’m unsure how much of a difference a 6155M and a 6140R would be but worth asking them?

What gearbox? Just wondering as we had a go of a 6120m last week with power quad box and it's the first new JD we've been impressed by since they stopped building the 30 seriesSo.. Valtra demo was a no show after dealer sold his demonstrator..awaiting his next move.
Case dealer very attentive and has provided lots of numbers/ specs but no sign of getting a demo
JDeere dealer top marks for getting a demo 24 hrs after making contact with them a 155m - we put it to work on our twin mower conditioners and will be on our europrofi 45 wagon tomorow.
First impressions.. deeply underwhelming!! Gearbox whilst very slick is no better in terms of speed differences between the gears..ie too big a difference.. cab very comfy is a bit small, visibility out the front is rubbish for a close coupled mower- can't actually see the thing! The power was disappointing we thought perhaps the tractor was in some sort of engine running in mode as some of the settings did not function - dealer could't get them to work either.. I think the tractor is just too heavy too.
We would normally run our 2 mowers at 9 mph .. best we could get out of this was 7 ish.. maybe our puma is pushing 175 - 200 hp after all!!
Looking at the JD range.. i think if i can find a 4 cylinder with a bit more grunt than this machine then we could be onto something.. however the 155m is definitely not a good fit for us.
All this trial and error is useful as it shakes out the good from the bad- helps us re-arrange our priorities . I am going to enjoy my discussios with the jd crew as they seem really switched on and interested..
Neighbour has a (4yo?) 6130 auto power (it's the only farm around here that still runs Deere). It's has a visit from the man with the laptop......So.. Valtra demo was a no show after dealer sold his demonstrator..awaiting his next move.

Despite the awful front visibility, and the cab interior thats worn out near as fast as the hitch metalwork, by crikey can it pull my dump trailer full of rock!
Dear dear Deere no, them head gasket troubles were all just rumour and hearsay .....The little JD seem to respond well to a bit of tuning!
It will go very well till it needs a head gasket though......
It’s the turbos that go wrong with the newer onesDear dear Deere no, them head gasket troubles were all just rumour and hearsay .....
Any update @Foregoneconclusion ?
Also does anyone know of any 6430’s or 6120’s for sale?
But the cab is quite different !Not sure why anyone would buy a 130R when you can buy a 120m that would be much better visibility and would probably match it for power too.
How is it going since? Happy with it? Looking at a new one at the moment and am just wondering about them in the field. My grandads just got a NH T6 160 and I’ve put 60 hours on it this last week if you just want something for field work it’s a good tractor I’ve had it spreading fert and on the combi drill and it’s very capable for what is meant to be a ‘small’ 6 cylinder only thing is I don’t think I’d want it as a all day every day tractor as it has that same newHolland feel and cab that hasn’t changed(or improved) in 20 years and it’s a bit slow on the road have to be revving it flat out to the max for 50kView attachment 958142
