Tbh going from a plough based system to DD, I'd go with a tine, but it'd need to be able to cope with a cover crop.
The Atchison is probably the simplest and most capable.

I'd only look at a disc sometime down the line personally.

And then it'd be a gd, mates got a JD, it's good, but a lot less forgiving than the gd.
The gd always covers the seed, the JD often leaves an open slot.
Have to agree, wasn’t impressed with the 750a, much prefer the GD, my ultimate would be the cross slot as it deals with chopped straw better. From my limited experience if I’d been younger I’d go with something like a Claydon for a few years then cross slot or GD

Yeah true clive , just want to get going. Feel like there is going to be a wave of people going regen this year/next year so trying to get a jump on snapping up a drill before they all dissappear.
I wouldn’t worry too much about missing out on drills, look in the farmers guide it’s full of second hand drills this grant is bringing a lot of second hand drills to the market. In my situation I went for a weaving gd rushed into it if I’m honest but have learnt to work what we are doing to fit the drills capabilities it also helps if the drill will drill into cultivated land then you can feel your way in bit at a time

Claydon is in no mans land in my opinion too high disturbance for direct drilling especially in blackgrass prone areas and not good for going into cultivated seedbeds

I agree it’s to much disturbance, especially in BG prone areas, but having gone from subsoiler/discs/Vaddy to GD I’m struggling with uneven ground and surface compaction.

We’ve( and most mixed farms) have been regen( whatever that really means) forever , despite using a plough for some crops and a mix of establishment for others. We use copious amounts of muck, have livestock grazing cover crops( we call them catch crops ) and a rotation that can include up to 8 different crops.
So many farms seem to to association buying a direct drill as going regen .
Even my disc combi drill will drill directly into stubble if conditions are right .
